Meet Julie Praxmarer, New High School Math Teacher

The high school's new math teacher will also help plan prom, coach girls soccer and serve as the student council's junior class advisor.

The Whitefish Bay School District hired 22 new teachers this year, and Whitefish Bay Patch hopes to introduce all of them to the community before the school year gets underway.

You can read their stories here.

Today, we will introduce you to teacher Julie Praxmarer.

Teaching position/extracurriculars: I will be teaching math at the high school (Advanced Geometry, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra 2). I am involved with Student Council as the Junior Class Advisor. I will also be helping plan prom, in addition to hopefully helping coach girls' soccer in the spring.

Hometown/Current community: I am originally from Palatine, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. I just moved from Peoria, Illinois to downtown Milwaukee.

Education/Experience: I attended Marquette University and graduated in 2010. I have previously worked at Milwaukee Academy of Science and at Pekin Community High School in Pekin, Illinois.

Do you have any connections to Whitefish Bay? I coached the girls' freshman soccer team at Whitefish Bay from 2009 to 2011 and have since wanted to join the high school as a teacher. is a welcoming community that pushes their students to perform at their highest level academically, in addition to being well rounded individuals- I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of this great community.

Hobbies: My hobbies include coaching soccer at the Bavarian Soccer Club, playing the piano, and going to the symphony and ballet downtown. I also love attending Cubs/Brewers games, any soccer games, and Marquette basketball games.

Favorite vacation you've ever taken: My favorite vacation was when I went to Rome, Italy this past year. The history of the city and its culture is fascinating. I hope to go back soon.

As a native of Peoria, Illinois, I cannot imagine how relieved she is to flee Pekin!
