New Montessori School Opening in the North Shore

Educational options in the North Shore expand this year with the opening of North Shore Montessori, at 4650 N. Port Washington Road in the Lexington Building at the Barnabas Center.

As remodeling and organizing continue, Head of School Traci Thiesen answered 5 Questions From Patch

In one sentence, how is a Montessori education different?
"It's tactile, hands on, experience based. It's mixed age groups so children always have older children to look up to. It's so hard to do in one sentence!"

Why did you decide to start this school?
"We just need more Montessori in our world ... On this side of Milwaukee we don't have much of it."

How many students will you have?
"We anticipate 30-40 the first year." The school serves age 2 1/2 to third grade.

What is one fear you would want to ease for parents considering Montessori?
"One concern is that children get to do whatever they want whenever they want to, and that's not true at all. It does follow the children but it is very structured."

OK, something fun. What's the first concert you ever attended?
Cheap Trick. I was in high school, I think it was at Alpine Valley.

And when does the first year begin?
Sept. 3.
