Nicolet Booster Club Driving for $20,000 with Third Annual Golf Outing

Get a hole-in-one and you could win a brand new car.

All-Sports Booster Club is hoping to $20,000 for the school’s athletic programs through its third annual Golf Outing scheduled for June 18 at the Silver Spring Country Club, N56 W21318 Silver Spring Rd., in Menomonee Falls. Tee time is 11 a.m.

Dubbed as Nicolet's “biggest fundraiser of the year,” athletic coordinator Kirk Krychowiak says the event is critical to maintaining facilities, equipment and coaching for the high school’s sports teams. The athletic program budget has been cut by 30 percent over the past few years and as a result, finding money for coaching clinics, new uniforms and other necessities has become difficult Krychowiak said.

"Because of the economy the way it is, the Booster Club used to be a luxury. Now the reality is, we need to fundraise just to get the things we need," Krychowiak said.

A total of $15,000 was raised last year, and each of Nicolet’s 27 sports teams received between $200 and $500 toward their respective budgets. Nicolet was also able to purchase a new sound system for the football, track and soccer stadium.

Now in its third year, Krychowiak is hopeful the Golf Outing participation and fundraising will continue to grow.

About 88 golfers took to the links last year, but Krychowiak wants to fill all 144 available slots this time around. Participants will compete in a four-person team, scramble format.

Registration, which is $75 per individual or $300 for a foursome, includes 18 holes of golf, cart rental, range balls, lunch and dinner. Prizes will be given to the overall winning team as well as the individual with the best score on certain holes.

Should a lucky golfer sink a hole-in-one on a specific, yet to be determined hole, they will drive away in a brand new 2011 vehicle courtesy of local car dealer Andrew Schlesinger, of Andrew Chevrolet. David Hobbs Honda is serving as the main event sponsor, contributing “a large amount to the cost of renting out the golf course for the day,” Krychowiak said.

But you don't have to know how to swing a 9-iron to help the Booster Club, hole sponsorships are another option and are available for $200, although only a few remain open. There are also tickets available for the dinner at $25 a piece, and raffle and auction tickets.

Krychowiak said the this event is important as a fundraiser, but also a community event. Nicolet high school serves students from Fox Point-Bayside, Glendale-River Hills and Maple Dale-Indian Hill. This outing provides a rare opportunity for all those communities to come together in support of their one high school, he said.

“We’re trying to bring the community of Nicolet back together,” he said. “We have a wonderful school here, and we need the support of the community.”

Ralph Rinehart, chair of the Golf Outing Committee, has had four children—three boys, and one girl—attend and participate in athletics at Nicolet. He says that keeping Nicolet’s teams well funded is important because the memories of competing in high school athletics last a lifetime.

"You won't remember your final exam in Math senior year, but you will remember the time you pinned the guy in the third round in the sectional meet," Rinehart said.
