Nicolet Drama Tackles Eating Disorders in 'Normal The Musical'

The 75-minute upbeat rock musical based on Yvonne Adrian's true story about her daughter's 5-year battle with anorexia opens May 10 at Nicolet High School.

Nicolet High School drama will tackle the heavy-handed themes of Normal The Musical May 10 through 12, discussing eating disorders, body image, mental health along with the importance of stress management. 

The 75-minute upbeat rock musical based on Yvonne Adrian's true story about her daughter's 5-year battle with anorexia, was produced in 2005 in New York City where it won the Jonathan Larson Award. Nicolet will produce a high school version of the play. 

The performances are free and will wrap-up with discussion facilitated by Sandy Blaies, clinical director of the Eating Disorders Unit at Aurora Psychiatric Hospital, her staff, and people in recovery.

Show times are May 10 and 11 at 7:30 p.m., and May 12 at 2 p.m. in the community room at Nicolet High School, 6701 N. Jean Nicolet Rd. 

This is the second of the Nicolet's arts-based presentations about eating disorders. On April 24, the school hosted ED (Eating Disorders) 101, a 60-minute seminar to train parents, school leaders, and educators about eating disorders, proper intervention strategies, and evidence-based treatment and resource options.
