Nicolet Reorganizes, Cuts One Position

With technology advances, an AV role is no longer needed.

One position would be eliminated, though no jobs lost, in a reorganization of high school roles approved Tuesday by the Nicolet School Board's Personnel Committee.

The full School Board will review the recommendation at its meeting at 7 p.m. Monday.

"This is a multi-person reconfiguration," District Administrator Rick Monroe said.

In total, three people will move to different positions, leaving some teachers to absorb some of the responsibilities of the position that will be eliminated, audio and visual technical support. These moves were made possible by the retirement of Jo Winters, current recreation administrative assistant, whose last day is Friday.

David Greevers is the audio-visual services supervisor for Nicolet. Principal Greg DePue explained that Nicolet just doesn't need an audio and visual position anymore.

"Due to the advancement of technology, it is no longer necessary to have a secretary manage these duties," he wrote in a memo to the board. But Greevers won't be losing his job.

Greevers moves into Renee Tazalla's position as the internal services secretary, also known as the teachers' secretary. And Tazalla takes on the responsibilities of Wendy Borchert, who joins the recreation department office.

DePue explained that audio-visual responsbilities will be divided as follows:

  • All staff will do their own AV setup and copying.
  • Tech staff will handle all lamp changes, copier and printer maintenance, and other service duties outside of the technical expertise staff.
  • Library staff will manage checkout of AV items.

Part of the reason for this reorganization is the specific need for more help in the athletic and recreation department. In July 2009, the athletic and recreation departments were combined into one department, now run by the Athletic and Recreation Director Kirk Krychowiak. That eliminated one full-time position.

Borchert has previously worked in the department, so her knowledge of the area will be an asset from Krychowiak's perspective.

"We're very excited that we have the opporutnity to replace Jo with especailly someone as good as Wendy, who's been in the rec department before and was a very valued memeber of the staff," Krychowiak said.
