Vance Dalzin Chosen as New Fox Point-Bayside School Chief

After a roughly three-month search, school officials have chosen their next superintendent who will take over the post from resigning Rachel Boechler.

After a roughly three-month search, Fox Point-Bayside school officials have chosen Vance Dalzin to take over as district superintendent next school year.

Dalzin has been superintendent of Williams Bay School District in Williams Bay, WI since August 2011, which borders Geneva Lake in Walworth County.

He will be introduced at Tuesday night's school board meeting, which begins at 7 in the Board Room at Stormonth Elementary School, 7301 N. Longarce Rd.

He grew up in the Milwaukee area and attended college at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. His graduate work was completed at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Edgewood College in Madison.

The board hired Illinois-based consulting firm, Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates to aid in the search, fielding 28 applicants.

Six received initial interviews, and those six were later whittled to three finalists including Dalzin; Richard Burchell, director of Fox Valley Career Center in the Kaneland Community Unit School District in Maple Park, IL; and Whitefish Bay Director of Curriculum Laura Myrah.

Dalzin was interviewed twice by the School Board, and once by a district group consisting of teachers, administrators, support staff and parents. A site visit also was made to Williams Bay, where stakeholders in that district were interviewed.

“Dr. Dalzin told us he was attracted to our position because of the district’s tradition of high student achievement and its progressive approach to educating students,” said Fox Point-Bayside School Board President Debbie Friberg.

Dalzin will succeed  to continue her work with Seattle-based nonprofit Center for Courage & Renewal.
