Germantown Demolishes Nicolet, 88-50.

Warhawks were a well-oiled machine and had little trouble defeating the Knights.

The Germantown Warhawks were an F-5 tornado Tuesday night, and the Knights of Nicolet were a soft summer breeze.

The Germantown boys baskeball team entered the Nicolet gymnasium, identified the enemy and obliterated them, 88-50.

Under head coach Steve Showalter, the Warhawks were fast, efficient and accurate. Germantown never trailed in the game.

Most of the psychological damage was done in the first quarter, when the Warhawks assaulted the scoreboard with 30 points.

The Warhawks thundered out of the gate with junior Zak Showalter hitting from everywhere on the court, including from his back a couple of times.

Showalter finished with an astonishing 34 points, and he sat out half the fourth quarter.

Whether Showalter was hitting three-pointers (3), driving the lane, rebounding or shooting from the line (13 of 15), this kid proved he is the real deal.

The next highest scorer for Germantown was Luke Fischer with 10 points. Nicolet senior Raheem Lemons hit for 13 points and senior Christian Griggs-Williams scored 12 points.

By the end of the first quarter, Germantown was up 30-12 – and it didn’t get any better from there. Germantown seemed to play as a unit, and Nicolet couldn’t seem to find any chemistry on the court.

The Knights showed a sign of life after a steal and layup by junior Corey Smith, then Raheem Lemons tapped one in off the backboard off a miss and it was 32-18 with Germantown still on top.

Germantown responded to Nicolet's faint  heartbeat with a 7-2 run and it was Germantown leading 40-20 with 4:34 left in the second.

At half-time, the score was 49-27.

There’s was a whole lot of trading baskets the rest of the way, with Germantown leading 69-39 at the end of the third period. There was more of the same in the fourth, with Germantown coming out on top 88-50.

Nicolet dropped to 12-8 (7-5), and Germantown kicked it up a notch to 18-1 (11-0).
