Knights Update: Girls Volleyball Team Ties for Muskego Invite Title

A roundup of sports events from Nicolet High School last week, and a look ahead to this week.

Here is a roundup of sports events for the last week at Nicolet High School, courtesy of Athletic Director Kirk Krychowiak:

The Nicolet girls volleyball team beat Homestead in its first conference match of the year 25-21, 28-26, 18-25, 25-20 to earn its 30th win in its last 32 conference matches.  The girls are ranked No. 7 in the area and were named the Journal Sentinel team of the week after tying for the title in last weekend's Muskego invite.  Melissa Morello had 45 kills and 8 aces  in wins over West Allis Central, Arrowhead and Burlington in the Muskego tournament.  Dana Kenney had 79 assists.  Alex Lautmann had 41 digs and Krystalyn Goode had 14 block kills.  This week, the team will travel to Milwaukee Lutheran for another conference tilt on Thursday.  

On Saturday, the JV squad will compete in the New Berlin West tournament while the varsity will travel to Brookfield Central for an invite.

The Nicolet boys volleyball team will open its match play season with a tough match against Tosa East at home on Thursday night before heading out to Racine Park on Saturday for an invite.

The Nicolet boys and girls cross country teams will run in the Arrowhead Invite on Thursday.

The will take its 2-1 record into their game on the road against the Red Knights of Milwaukee Lutheran on Friday night.  The frosh will look for their first win when they host the Red Knights on Thursday and the JV team will try to push their record to 2-1 with a road trip to Lutheran on Thursday night.

The Nicolet girls golf team placed 3rd in the Northshore Conference meet last Monday at the Northshore Country Club.  Emily Murphy led the team with a 43 and Jaclyn Clark shot a 47.  The team missed out on second place by just four strokes.  On Wednesday last week, Emily Murphy lead the team to a third-place finish with a 40 score at Blackstone Creek.  Murphy placed second overall earning a medal.  The team will be competing in their third conference meet at Northshore CC tonight at 3:15 p.m.  On Saturday, the team will compete in the Cardinal Invite at the Pleasant View Golf Club.

Amy Hurwitz, class of 2011, has been selected as a recipient of the 2011 Lou Warobick's Junior Golf Foundation Sportsmanship Award. Amy's willingness to volunteer her time at Nicolet High School and in her community elevated her to the top of the Foundation's list of nominations.  Amy is now attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The Nicolet girls tennis team hosts Port Washington today in a conference matchup and will travel to Grafton for another NSC match tomorrow before hosting its annual Sweet 16 varsity tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The Nicolet boys soccer team hosts Port Washington tonight with JV1
starting at 5 p.m. and the varsity kicking off at 7 p.m. The JV2 team will host Cedarburg on the upper field tomorrow.  The JV1 and varsity teams will host Brown Deer at 5 p.m./7 p.m. on Friday night at Nicolet Stadium.

The Nicolet girls swim team will show off its new scoreboard with a
conference match against Milwaukee Lutheran tonight beginning at 6 p.m.
