Meet Patch's 'Commissioner of Baseball' — Yankees' Mark Teixeira

All-star first baseman will answer questions, post exclusive videos and share advice for young athletes in new, regular feature on Patch.

Good news, Milwaukee baseball fans! There’s a high-priced, power-hitting, left-handed first baseman on the way.

Not to play for the Brewers, of course. Instead, Patch users young and old can tap into the expertise of New York Yankees star Mark Teixeira, who has been named “Commissioner of Patch Baseball.”

Teixeira, a four-time Gold Glove winner and two-time All-Star, will interact with Patch users by regularly responding to questions, sharing baseball tips, and posting exclusive videos. Teixeira will also offer young athletes advice on how to stay in shape and why healthful eating is so important for optimal performance.

“I live in a Patch town now and I keep tabs on my original hometown via the Patch site there, so I’ve seen the ways that Patch supports its communities,” commented Teixeira. “I’m excited to be a part of that by connecting with Patch users who have the same passion for baseball that I do. I’m eager to see what kinds of questions they toss my way!”

Teixeira is a career .281 hitter, according to baseball-reference.com. He has 314 homers, with eight seasons of more than 30. His best overall season was 2005 with the Texas Rangers, when he hit .301 with 44 homers and 144 RBI. Teixeira also finished second in the American League MVP voting in 2009 with the Yankees.

“Baseball is such an important part of so many of the communities we’re in — and if something’s important to our users, it’s important to Patch,” said Rachel Feddersen, Chief Content Officer at Patch. “Mark is a great representative of what Patch stands for. We’re thrilled to offer this exclusive opportunity for our communities’ baseball players, from little leaguers to college prospects, to interact with this World Series champion.”

Seeing as how Patch is supposed to be a local news reporting entity, couldn't we use Jason Jaramillo or Marcus Hanel, the Brewers Bullpen Catcher, both from Racine County? How about a Brewer Player. Someone other then a freaking Yankee.......

Dave, thank you for a thoughtful comment, "...privatize the gains and socialize theRead More losses" gives a lot to think about. I also wish we had looked at restructuring the tax code to cover two unfunded wars.

“The state is only a year out of the recall mess that stalled any real change and any outsideRead More investment.” [WI = Mississippi II] What real change has been stalled? The “Love” Gov. Walker of yours has had his way with passing austerity, Neanderthal budgets, disenfranchising voters, repealing fair wages for women, Act 10, marginally crippling unions, because they invariably support the middle class and Democratic party, putting Billions on the credit card, and then, disingenuously claiming to have “balanced the budget” and created a huge surplus as well, and now – think small government here – is moving forward with ultrasounds for all women contemplating abortion, and we cannot forget the “mine” which, will create 700 low paying permanent jobs for Wisconsinites… all of these masterful initiatives have one thing in common: they are all tied up in the courts, and will not be resolved for years, and, the taxpayers of Wisconsin are all paying for Steve’s love affair with the “Love” Gov. Walker and his serial abortions… What will you say on June 5, 2014, when WI is the same as it is today or worse? I know. “Well, it is only 2-years out of the recall mess…”
