Nicolet Girls Basketball Nearly Lose Perfect Record to Waukesha South

With 1:30 left in the game, the Knights racked up an extra 10 points for the win.

The boys basketball team lost a close home game Friday against Cedarburg. The Bulldogs pulled out a 42-38 win despite 12 points
from Eugene Bonner and 10 from Corey Smith. A late three-pointer from Nolan
Wagner, who finished with six points and a basket by Greg Pigg (eight points) kept the Knights in the game late but Cedarburg eventually held on for the win. This week the boys will play just once. They will host the second ranked team in the state, the Germantown Warhawks, on Friday.

The girls basketball team but the unbeaten streak come close to ending last Tuesday after the Lady Knights trailed 37-29 at home vs. Waukesha South with just 1:30 left in the game. But the girls finally got hot and scored the last 10 points of the game in furious fashion to defeat a stunned South team 39-37. Again, it was Brittney Fair leading the way with 18 points. Then on Friday, the team travelled to Cedarburg and beat the Bulldogs 54-33 behind Fair's 20 points. Briana Gray poured in eight points. The team is now 11-0 this season and an incredible 57-4 in its last 61 games dating back to the 2009-10 season. This week, the girls play just once, Friday at Germantown.

The boys swim and dive team defeated Grafton 117-69 and 117-21 in varsity and junior varsity competition Thursday at Grafton. Winning varsity events were Mike Mills, Grant Wilkie, Evan Siverhus, Jamie DeGraff, Charlie Abram, Matt Bootsma and Rommie Hoffman. This week, the team will host Cedarburg on Thursday and host it's annual Knights 11 Dive Invitational on Friday. On Saturday, the team will travel to Shorewood for an Invite.

The wrestling team took on Grafton on the road last Thursday in their fourth conference dual. It was a very close match and the knights ending up three points short of the victory. On Saturday, the wrestling team traveled to West Allis Hale for a 13-team tournament with some stiff competition. The team placed eighth with top performances coming from Jon McKay taking first at 220 and Keondre Walton-Cooper taking second at 182. Catch them at Nicolet this Thursday when they face Cedarburg and on Saturday at Racine Case. The JV team will compete in the Falcon Inviational at Sheboygan Falls High School on Saturday.

The Nicolet/ girls Hockey Co-Op team defeated Sun Prairie last Tuesday night 4-2. On Thursday, the girls out shot Arrowhead 23-14 but was only able to manage a 2-2 tie. On Friday, their 10-game unbeaten streak finally came to an end after playing in their sixth game in 10 days, losing to Green Bay 3-2.Β  The team is now 11-3-1 and 4-1-1 in Conference play. Their next game after some much needed rest is Thursday in Appleton then on Saturday they will host Xavier at University School at 7 p.m.

Shore Conference tournament this week at the Ozaukee Ice Center.

The gymnastics team hosts Grafton/Cedarburg in a conference dual meet on Wednesday beginning at 6:30 p.m. They will travel to Homestead on Saturday for the Homestead Invitational.

The ski team began their season last night. The weather was terrific, conditions tough and the course was great. Junior Megan McMahon won. Senior Claire Kopetsky took third on the girls side. Senior Mike Noonan missed bronze by 1/10th of a second on the boys side. Overall, the girls varsity took second, boys varsity third, girls JVΒ  took fifth and boys JV fifth. Their next race is Thursday at Sunburst in a slalom. Then they will race again at Sunburst on Sunday in another slalom.
