Nicolet Seeded Third in WIAA Basketball Regional

Knights take on Milwaukee North, with possible matchup against Brown Deer to follow.

An up-and-down season has the Nicolet Knights squarely in the middle of their boys basketball regional draw. They are a No. 3 seed and face No. 6 seed Milwaukee North in the first round of the WIAA Division 2 boys basketball tournament on March 1.

Nicolet opened the season with three consecutive victories, but it was the longest such stretch of wins or losses all year. The Knights (13-8, 8-5 NSC) are tied for third in the North Shore Conference with Whitefish Bay, with whom they split two games. Three players — Christian Griggs-Williams, Corey Smith and Raheem Lemons — average between 14 and 10 points per game.

Milwaukee North is 4-13 and is winless in nine games in the tough City Conference. The winner of that game faces second-seeded Brown Deer on March 4.

Despite a stunning loss to Grafton and another home defeat to Homestead, Whitefish Bay earned the No. 1 seed in the regional They'll host the winner of the first-round game between Shorewood and Milwaukee Messmer.

The Blue Dukes are led by the duo of Ron Patten and Jamie Schneck, both averaging about 15 points per game.  They beat Shorewood 67-44 on Feb. 12.

Fifth-seeded Shorewood (5-15) has dropped eight of its last nine games. The Greyhounds visit fourth-seeded Milwaukee Mesmmer on March 1. Point guard Deion Jackson-Body leads the team with a 17.2 scoring average, according to WisSports.net. Messmer is 12-7 and plays in the Midwest Classic Conference.

Other No. 1 regional seeds within the Section 4 grouping are Wauwatosa East, New Berlin West and Wisconsin Lutheran.
