Nicolet Wrestlers Drop Out in WIAA State Tournament

McKay suffers only third loss of the season.

All three Nicolet representatives at the WIAA Division 1 state wrestling meet lost in Thursday's opening round.

Jon McKay couldn't generate any offense against Brett Geilenfeldt of Marquette High School in the 215-pound class, losing 5-0. It was just his third loss of the season. McKay (40-3) enters the consolation round Friday against Erik Vruwink of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln.

At 112 pounds, Chris Morrell was beaten 7-0 by Joe Umlauf of Wausau West. Morrell (28-7) faces Brett Bowar of Fort Atkinson in Friday's consolations.

Dakota Mitchell (17-8) was pinned at the 4-minute mark by Michael Keilen of La Crosse Central. Mitchell meets Rodney Daniels of Bradley Tech on Friday.
