Wildcats Compete in Pacer Relays

The University School track and field teams are fifth and sixth in the Pacer Relays in Kenosha on Saturday.

The University School track and field team took part in the Pacer Relays hosted by Shoreland Lutheran at Indian Trails Academy in Kenosha on Saturday.  The USM boys finished the relays in fifth place and the USM girls captured sixth-place in the day’s meet.

In the boys meet Shoreland Lutheran was the winner with 96 points.  Racine Lutheran and Riverside University High School tied for second place with 75 points.  St. Thomas More took fourth place with 72 points, followed by USM with 51 points, Brookfield Academy with 50 points, Milwaukee Pulaski with 32 points, The Prairie School and Bay View with 24 points apiece, and The Hope School with eight points.

Shoreland Lutheran was also the winner in the girls meet with 117 points. Riverside took second with 66 points. The Prairie School was third with 60 points. The Rams Co-op was fourth with 59 points, followed by St. Thomas More with 49 points, USM with 38 points, Brookfield Academy with 35 points, Racine Lutheran with 30 points, DASH with 13 point, and The Hope School with 11 points.

USM had several fine performances in the boys meet.  The trio of Jake LeBowitz, Neal Brethauer and Julien Addison won the Discus Relay with a score of 330 feet, 9 inches.

Wildcat throwers also took second in the Shot Put Relay.  Julien Addison, Ben Taylor and Billy Ostermeyer had a total of 104 feet, 8 inches. Riverside won the event at 109 feet, 2.25 inches.

USM’s Eric Hilgendorf, Sam Bernstein, Austin Matthews and Keith Finch took second place in the 3200 relay.  The quartet’s time was 9:39.06.  Only Brookfield Academy was better with a time of 9:28.38.

USM also took a second place in the distance medley race. The race is a relay of 400, 800, 1200, 1600 meters in that order. Djdade Denson, Will Stearns, Michael Wheeler and Ian Cooley finished at 12:15.62.  The Prairie School won the race with a time of 11:42.34.

USM placed third in the long jump relay.  Chris Cooper, Keith Finch and Djdade Denson finished at 51 feet, 1.25 inches. Racine Lutheran won the event at 55 feet, 5 inches.

USM also placed third in the 3200 relay.  Ian Cooley, Michael Wheeler, Eric Hilgendorf, and Sam Bernstein finished with a time of 22:09.75.  St. Thomas More took first place at 21:14.06.

The Wildcats also had successes in the girls meet.  USM runners won two events, the distance medley and the 1600 relay.

In the distance medley, USM’s team of Nicole Flanary, Lindsay Neitzel, Megan Waples and Emma Kulick won with a time of 14:42.99. Janel Lucas, Emily Waples, Flanary and Neitzel won the 1600 relay with a time of 4:40.81, far faster than the Rams Co-op, which took second at 5:00.06.

USM placed third in the 400 relay. Lonnisha Smith, Maddy Glaeser, Kendal Youngblood and Camille Youngblood finished with a time of 56.62.  Riverside won the race at 52.52.

Smith, Glaeser, Kendall Youngblood and Camille Youngblood took fifth in the 800 relay.  Their time was 1:57.37.  Riverside also won the 800 at 1:51.69.

Emma Kulick, Megan Waples, Shivani Singh and Sarah Severson placed third in the 3200 relay.  Their time for the distance was 12:08.03.  Shoreland Lutheran won the race at 11:28.08.

USM returns home for its next scheduled meet. The Wildcats host Living Word Lutheran, Messmer, Racine Lutheran, Brookfield Academy and The Prairie School in meet that begins at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
