County Supervisor Lipscomb Shares His July eNewsletter

As we enter into the month of July, I am proud to share the following updates. Below you will find a link to my July eNewsletter which includes a brief description for a selection of items that came before the County Board at the end of June and how I voted on behalf of 1st District residents. 

Unfortunately, this update does not yet include a vote on my proposal to "cap the backdrop." I introduced a resolution to cap this pension provision in May and it was scheduled in June to go before the Finance, Personnel and Audit Committee as well as the Pension Study Committee. Both committees laid the item over until this month and asked for more information. I will write more about it in the future, but essentially it is a plan to limit the backdrop as of September 1, 2012, to what employees have already earned. For those who are already eligible to retire and select a backdrop date before September 1, 2012, there is no change to the backdrop as thus no reason for anyone to rush to retire. No one loses anything they have already earned.

If adopted, the proposal has a present value savings of more than $15 million and is expected to reduce necessary 2013 pension contributions by more than $1 million. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel wrote a story about the proposal which you can find here: JSonline - Pension Backdrop
