Tritons Whip Wildcats in WLF Sectional Final

Green Bay Notre Dame beat the University School boys lacrosse team 11-2 Wednesday.

The University School boys lacrosse team lost to Green Bay Notre Dame 11-2 in the Wisconsin Lacrosse Federation Division 2 state tournament Sectional Final Wednesday at USM.  As a consequence, the season ended for USM.

Notre Dame scored the game’s first goal early.  After that, USM was never able to get a solid footing in the game. The Wildcats were unable to make connecting passes, and they had difficulty gaining control of ground balls.  As a result, they took several penalties that prevented them from getting the ball for frequent scoring opportunities.  The Tritons won nine of the fifteen faceoffs in the game, held the ball for a large portion of the game, and used a variety of shots to power the ball past USM’s goalie David Mai, five times in the first half and six more times in the second half. Peter Coleman and Andrew Martzahl led the Tritons with 3 goals apiece.

USM’s two goals were both scored by freshman Zach Erickson.  Erickson scored one in each half.  His first came at 10:34 in the second quarter off a pass from senior Duke Butler.  His second came just 38 seconds into the second half off a pass by senior Kenny Servis.

In the game Will Pavek made 8 saves for Notre Dame, while Mai made 8 saves for USM.

In an email after the game Cameron Feist, USM’s head coach, commented on the season and on the USM team: “This team has come incredibly far this season.  We started the season a disjointed group of individual athletes, many of whom had trouble passing and catching with any consistency, and ended the season a cohesive unit with the strongest single season record in USM history.  This group of talented young people has worked incredibly hard, played lacrosse the right way, and has built upon the work of their predecessors in solidifying USM lacrosse as a high quality athletic program.  They should all be proud of their season and their efforts as individuals and as a group.  It has been our pleasure to get to know and work with this team and we know that each of them will continue to develop into the fine young men we know them to be.”
