USM Tennis Team Wins Dual Match

The University School tennis team beat The Prairie School 5-2 Tuesday.

The University School boys tennis team beat its Midwest Classic Conference rival, The Prairie School, 5-2 in a dual match Tuesday at USM.

USM’s head coach Russ Trimble said, “I thought we played well against Prairie. The two toughest matches were at number 1 singles and doubles.”  The Prairie School won those two matches, but the Wildcats swept the other five to gain the overall victory.

In the number 1 singles contest, the Hawks’ Zane Navratil, defeated USM’s Ty Parks, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Trimble commented on the match, “Ty fought hard and aggressively in the first set. The games were long, and all were close. Ty had some momentary lapses but never gave up and kept a level head the entire time.”

The Wildcats won everything else.  In the number 2 singles match, Brent Mackman took care of The Prairie School’s Thomas Wana by a 6-1, 6-4 score.  USM’s Michael Lucas handed Ian Foster a 6-1, 6-2 drubbing in the number 3 singles match. Trimble was happy with the singles play, “The singles continued to dictate, and Kern did a great job filling in for Tommy Camilleri who was sick.”

Trimble was also pleased with what he was witnessing in the doubles play.  “Two and three doubles are getting better each match and are working on strategy and new formations with good success.”  USM’s number 2 doubles team, Spencer Haas and Joey Harris beat The Prairie School’s Charles Szaks and Charles Rosholdt 6-3, 6-1 and Emmett Scovil and Andrew Buchanan handled The Prairie School’s Samuel Stewart and Ethan Will, 6-2, 6-0.

After the match, Trimble looked forward to the Wildcats’ next big challenge.  “We will try to be the spoilers tomorrow against a very strong Marquette.”  The Wildcats travel to Elm Grove Park for a dual match against Division 1’s top-ranked Hilltoppers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
