Wildcats Beat St. Joseph in Soccer Match

The University School boys soccer team beat Kenosha St. Joseph 2-0 on Friday.

The University School boys soccer team captured its second victory of the season with a convincing 2-0 defeat of Kenosha St. Joseph in a non-conference Friday afternoon at USM.

USM head coach Jock Mutschler continued to calibrate his system and his line up. The adjustments paid off handsomely in the game.  The Wildcats outshot their visitors 23-4 and controlled the flow of the game.

Ben Zwief and Isaac Schlenker, both playing a new position from previous games, combined for USM’s two goals.  The first came only minutes into the game.  Zwief took a crossing pass from Schlenker and gunned his shot past St. Joseph’s goalie Kyle Kroth at 1:46.

The two Wildcats connected again early in the second half.  Zwief turned a header toward Schlenker’s feet about thirty yards from St. Joseph’s goal.  Schlenker controlled the ball, and moving like a hungry cheetah, he outran several defenders and then slotted a low shot just inside the right goalpost to give USM a two goal lead at 53:09.

In the game Kroth made 13 saves.  Meanwhile USM’s keeper, Jack Wells made 3 saves including diving to tip away a low shot off a breakaway.
