Wildcats Lose Soccer Opener

The University School boys soccer team lost to Nathan hale High School 4-0 Tuesday.

In its first game of the season Tuesday, the University School boys soccer team conceded four second half goals and lost to Nathan Hale High School 4-0 in West Allis.

Despite being out shot 10-4 the Wildcats kept the Huskies at bay in the first half.  Solid defensive play by Sam Bernstein, David Parks, Nelson Kies, Ben Zwief and Rob Schmidt kept Hale off the scoreboard. The Wildcats also had aggressive goalkeeping by Jack Wells.  Wells exploded off his line several times to cut off crosses or stop direct shots, particularly in the game’s sixth minute when he moved out, dove, and, like a thief, swiped the ball from the feet of Hale forward Alexander Sykes, who was rushing in on a breakaway.

At half time USM’s head coach Jock Mutschler told the Wildcats, “We’ve hung with them in the first half, now lets make something happen.”  Unfortunately, USM could only keep the dam from breaking for so long.  It soon burst, and the Huskies flooded the USM eighteen-yard box with chances in the final forty minutes.  Hale scored twice on penalty kicks, in the 47th minute by Josh Burke and in 69th minute by Bobby Saskowski.  In between the Huskies got goals from speedy forwards Kevin Mesich in the 49th minute and Sykes in the 57th minute. USM had several chances, but the Wildcats were unable to make good on them.
