United Wisconsin Calls Milwaukee's Same-Day Registration Referendum "A Victory for Democracy."

MADISON – United Wisconsin Executive Director Lisa Subeck made the following statement in response to the 11-4 vote by the Milwaukee Common Council to place an advisory referendum on the April ballot to preserve same-day registration in Milwaukee

“Thanks to proactive action by Milwaukee elected officials and residents, voters will have their voices heard on preserving the right to register at the polls on Election Day. The estimated 10-15% of voters who register at the polls have been under assault by Scott Walker and his Republican allies in the Wisconsin legislature, and will not sit silent and let one group of politicians trample on their voting rights.

Along with our partners at One Wisconsin Now and We Are Wisconsin, United Wisconsin drew attention to Scott Walker’s planned attack on voting rights at a press conference on November 29th, 2012, where we presented over 15,000 signatures – gathered over just a few days – from Wisconsin citizens in support of preserving same-day registration.
