Ryan leads Walker among WI voters in presidential chase, new poll finds

MADISON – Wisconsin Republicans prefer Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Janesville, to Gov. Scott Walker for president in 2016, according to a new poll from the liberal-leaning Public Policy Polling.

Head-to-head in a contest for the GOP presidential nomination, Ryan outpaces Walker 47 percent to 38 percent. However, if Ryan chose not to run, Walker is the overwhelming favorite among national contenders in Wisconsin.

What may be more interesting to Wisconsin Republicans is Hillary Clinton’s fall in favorability in the Badger State. In February, Clinton led Ryan 51 percent to 43 percent and Walker 54 percent to 41 percent. In the poll released Thursday, the former first lady and U.S. secretary of state ties Ryan at 46 percent and leads Walker 49 percent to 44 percent.
