Source: Truce called in water fight

MADISON – Don’t expect any tough talk on soda from First Lady Michelle Obama and crew Thursday in Watertown.

A source tells Wisconsin Reporter a deal has been struck between Mrs. Obama’s water brigade and Big Beverage, and sugary soft drinks will not be the enemy in Watertown.

A spokeswoman by the name of Spinweber told Wisconsin Reporter as much on Tuesday.

“The effort is not about telling people not to drink soda. It’s about getting them to drink more water,” Elly Spinweber, director of communications and marketing for the Partnership for a Healthier America, wrote in an email.

The first lady will be joined by PHA, actress Eva Longoria, and local officials at the Watertown High School to announce a new national campaign to get Americans to drink more water. Coca Cola, Pepsi and other major players from the U.S. beverage industry also will be at the hydration pep rally, according to a representative from the Wisconsin Beverage Association.
