Nearly a Year Later, Mom Still Haunted by Son's Overdose Death

Door County man faces felony drug charges after accusations of providing drugs that killed 24-year-old in Fox Point.

Just a few nights ago, a Fox Point mother who lost her son, Tim Reck, to a drug overdose found the last Mother's Day card she ever received from him. That card illustrated just what kind of man Tim was, Kris Reck said. In it, he congratulated Kris, a music teacher, on a recent performance. He wrote that her solo gave him shivers when she hit the high notes and that he was very proud to be her son because he learned so many of his musical talents from her. Those musical talents landed him an occasional gig as a drummer with a band called Matthew Haeffel. Tim also played guitar and piano, and music was a big part of his life. "I wasn’t able to listen to his music for a while," Kris said. "When he was in the hospital (just before he died), we…

Milwaukee Admirals Founder Erwin J. Merar Remembered Fondly

Bayside's Merar, who founded the Admirals, recalled as man of integrity and business savvy.

Chances are, the next time they drop the puck at center ice for a Milwaukee Admirals game at the Bradley Center, few fans will recall the name Erwin J. Merar. However, if it wasn’t for Merar and his business savvy and commitment, Admirals hockey might never have existed. Joe Lubar Blazed Independent Path

His parents find there was a whole new side of Joe they didn't even know was there.

Throughout his too-short life, Joe Lubar was known for his independence and character. It turns out that even his parents did not know the depth of that character and the many lives he touched. A scion of the well-known Lubar family – his grandfather, the philanthropist Sheldon Lubar, founded the family investment firm Lubar & Co., of which his father is now president – Joe could have had it all very easily. Instead, he chose to plot his own course, pursuing baseball before banking and choosing and keeping his friends based on their character. One avocation in which Joe would not have been called a risk-taker, though, was skiing. Joe had been skiing since he was 3 years old, and had taken yearly ski trips with family and friends. While he …

Friends Remember Huegel as Cornerstone of Community

Stalwart Glendale citizen helped build Nicolet tradition from its beginning.

Each August, the Nicolet School Board convenes its annual meeting where the taxpaying public takes over the district’s business of approving budgets and plans for the coming year.
