Looking for one more way to celebrate Halloween before the flurries begin to fly? There will be fresh caramel corn and apple cider from The Fresh Market, artisan hot chocolate and frozen yogurt from Red Mango and Art Trooper will host a pumpkin-painting station in front of The Fresh Market. A thief broke into the studio Sunday night and didn't just leave with the cash, but the entire cash register. Owner Ann Deuser said she's just happy all the kids' artwork was spared.
While the kids projects were left untouched, a thief broke into Art Trooper in Audubon Court late Sunday evening, leaving behind an estimated $500 in damages. Owner Ann Deuser said she came in on Monday, even though the shop was closed, to check on the kiln and found her cash register gone and the back door handle broken. "I'm angry," she said. "As a merchant and a retailer, you work so hard for so little money. And then to have someone come in and take what very little money you make..." When she came to the store, she found the back door handle had been broken and not just the cash, but the whole register was missing. Deuser said because the register is so heavy, she doesn't believe this was done by kids. "It's like a safe. I can't …

It's still a tough economy and that means it's even more important to shop local, small business owner, Ann Dueser, said. Her shop, Art Trooper, sits at the East end of Audubon Court and will be one of the many businesses participating in the shopping center's first sidewalk sale Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. "We don't have a retail association here, we don't have a Chamber, we don't really have any of that," Deuser said. "So, we thought as merchants, we could all work together and the first event we thought we'd try would be a sidewalk sale." Art Trooper will have discounted art activities for kids and Deuser said parents are welcome to drop off their "well-behaved" kids. Dueser said the goal is to get people to support their local, …
