The Witch House Hits the Big Screen

The Mary Nohl House in Fox Point is getting a little local star treatment as the director continues searching for residents with memorable experiences for his documentary.

Every North Shore newcomer and native knows exactly the story and location of the legendary “Witch House." Scattered with oddly artistic statues and riding on a plethora of urban legends, Mary Nohl’s house on Beach Road in Fox Point has become a suburban fixture. Between its word of mouth notoriety and a book published in 2009 titled “Mary Nohl: Inside & Out,” one film student considered it’s about time for a documentary chronicling the mystery and whimsy behind the famed Fox Point landmark. Joseph Skow, the director of “Pilgrimage to the Witch House”, is a senior graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in film from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.  He’s been independently working on the film since December 2010, and with screening …

New Construction to Combat Flooding

Fox Point is finalizing a new construction project that will battle future flooding.

The Village of Fox Point is now taking bids for a renovation of the North Beach Drive ravine. This will be a $169,000 face-lift, planned to start July 1, in hopes to combat future flooding.  The ravine is a major outlet for storm water to flow into Lake Michigan. Bids must be placed by 2 p.m. this Wednesday at village hall.  The west portion of the ravine was mitigated about five years ago.  Now the east portion, specifically basin number five, will undergo construction to reduce the intensity of water flow.  The task is expected to take eight weeks. Fox Point hired contractor Kapur & Associates Inc. of Glendale to handle the project, and Village Engineer and Director of Public Works, Scott Brandmeier, says a large portion of the cost isn’…
