UPDATED: 7-Car Accident on I-43 Backs Up Traffic for 7 Miles

Traffic was backed up to the Cedarburg exit at Highway C on Tuesday morning when seven cars collided on Interstate 43.

The North Shore Fire Department reported a seven-car crash around 7:26 a.m. Tuesday.  Traffic on Interstate-43 was brought to a crawl, but NSFD is reporting no injuries at this time.  By 8 a.m., a grey Hyundai was being loaded onto a tow truck just North of the Brown Deer Road exit, and multiple other vehicles waited in line to also be towed.  As of 8:10 a.m., traffic was still at a crawl heading south on I-43. Dozens of cars were getting off the freeway at the Mequon Road exit and backing up Port Washington Road heading south. Many were also driving down the emergency lane for more than one mile before the Mequon Road exit to inch toward the exit. 78-Year-Old Driver Misses Lake Drive Curve and Lands in The Shul Parking Lot

She didn't make the curve on Brown Deer Road as it turns into Lake Drive and took out a sign and some bushes before landing in The Shul parking lot.

A 78-year-old Bayside woman told Bayside police she just didn't "make the curve" as she drove northbound from Brown Deer Road to Lake Drive. She was uninjured, but took out a few items before landing in The Shul parking lot.  According to the report: The woman was negotiating the curve around 9 a.m. Friday as she was heading north on Brown Deer Road where the road jogs to the right, turning into Lake Drive. She told police she just didn't "make the curve." When police arrived, they found extensive front end damage to her car and a traffic sign wedged up underneath the vehicle.  She had driven into the ditch and narrowly missed a light pole as well as a utility pole. Fox Point Teen Arrested for OWI and Posession After Crashing into Snow Bank

He told officers he only did one shot of vodka, with his parents.

A 16-year-old from Fox Point was arrested March 2 for OWI after he got stuck in a snow bank when he misjudged the opening in the boulevard along Santa Monica Boulevard. According to the report: It was 10 p.m. and a Fox Point officer was returning to the station at the end of his shift when he noticed a car stuck in the snow covered, grass median in the 7300 block of North Santa Monica Boulevard. As the officer approached the car, a man got out of the still-running car. When asked what happened, he said he was backing out of the driveway and misjudged the opening in the boulevard, backed into the snow covered grass median and got stuck. According to the report, he seemed dazed so the officer asked how old he was and if he’d been drinking. …

Scores Gather for Fundraiser in Memory of Nicolet Sophmore

Friends and family gathered in Pleasant Prairie Saturday for Halee Ludowise-Fischer.

Scores of friends and family gathered Saturday in Pleasant Prairie to take part in a fundraiser in memorial of Halee Ludowise-Fischer who died in a car accident last month along with her friend, Jenni Geren. Ludowise-Fischer, who was driving her parents' car, attempt to elude a River Hills police officer who tried to stop her for a traffic violation. The car kept speeding east on Good Hope Road for several blocks before crashing into a utility pole and a tree. The two girls died instantly, police said. The crash site is now a shrine, filled with flowers and teddy bears. The back of the stop sign at the corner of Seneca and Good Hope is covered in notes and messages to the girls.   The North Shore Fire Department responded to 100 calls for service, including 77 EMS calls and 23 fire and rescue calls , during the week of Nov. 28 through Dec. 4.  Here are a few of the calls from Shorewood, Whitefish Bay, Fox Point and Bayside: Shorewood An oven fire on the 2000 block of East Kenmore Place started when the homeowner made a pizza at 9:39 p.m. Nov. 29. She said she cooked a turkey for Thanksgiving which caused a mess in the oven, and the grease started on fire when she made her pizza a couple days later. She told responders that she thought she put the fire out with flour. Nicolet Crash Victims' Funerals Set for Wednesday, Saturday

Halee Ludowise-Fischer and Jennifer Geren will be remembered this week by friends and family.

Halee Ludowise-Fischer and Jennifer Geren passed away early Saturday morning after a single car accident. Both girls were only 15 years old. Amid colorful bouquets of flowers, candles and notes from loved ones, dozens gathered Tuesday evening to remember the girls who died so young. Services for Jennifer Geren will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Congregation Sinai, 8223 N. Port Washington Rd., Fox Point. Services will be held for Halee Ludowise-Fischer on Saturday at St. Monica's Church, 160 E. Silver Spring Dr., Whitefish Bay. Nicolet Students Mourn Loss of Classmates Killed in High-Speed Crash

The afternoon after Halee Ludowise-Fischer and Jennifer Geren died in accident, friends gathered for strength and to share memories.

Under a gray drizzling sky Saturday afternoon, five Nicolet High School sophomores gathered at the site where their 15-year-old classmates Halee Ludowise-Fischer and Jennifer Geren died when they crashed their car into a tree and utility pole earlier in the day. The students signed their names to messages in permanent marker on a utility pole that the car had struck at West Good Hope Road and North Seneca Avenue in Glendale. Dozens of others already had left their own notes and bouquets of flowers. Jnana Martin, 16, said she didn't write anything on the pole because she couldn't think of anything that would do justice to her feelings for her friends. "There's just no words," she said. This is terribly sad. My heart goes out to those who are personally affected by this. My only question is this - why were they fleeing the police in the first place? This could have all been avoided if traffic laws were followed properly.   more ›
