Doctor's Park: What Improvements Should Be Made?

A public hearing has been set for residents to get involved with improving the park. What would you like to see?

Want to help improve Doctor’s Park? A public hearing is scheduled for the master planning committee for the Doctor’s Park Friends group at 7 p.m. April 24 at the Village Hall, 9075 N. Regent Rd. The group would like citizen input as they begin a multi-year plan to reinvent the park, which will include assessing the condition of the park, determining the maintenance and repair needs, and exploring possible improvements. What would you like to see happen with the park? Tell us in the comments section.

I'd like to see the restrooms "improved". And by that I mean open and usable. Not having decent facilities makes a day with the kids at the park quite an adventure.   more ›

Bayside Police and NSFD Say Doctors Park is a Public Safety Issue

County to begin work fixing parking lot, stormwater draining and signage in September.

When a man called 911 for help from the Doctors Park beach over the holiday weekend, first responders found they could not get vehicles down the washed-out, rubble-strewn path, delaying their ability to provide service. The North Shore Fire Department eventually brought the man up by hand. Though the man's situation was not life-threatening, police and paramedics say the park's condition is becoming a public safety hazard. The only path to the beach has a four-foot wide gap from the floods last July, and the concrete part of the path was strewn with stumps and branches that had washed over the drive, severely delaying the arrival of emergency crews. "We had to pull the wood off so we could get an ambulance through," Bayside Police Chief …

Purse Stolen From Car at Doctor's Park

Only one credit card purchase was made: $1 at a Citgo gas station.

While playing with her children on the playground equipment at Doctor's Park just 200 feet from her vehicle, a 37-year-old Whitefish Bay woman was robbed when someone broke the passenger window and stole her purse.  On Friday, the woman flagged down a Fox Point Police officer when she returned to her mini-van and found someone had smashed the passenger window and stolen her purse. She said she was never more than 200 feet from her vehicle as her children were playing on the playground equipment, and she did not see or hear anything. The officer took a look at the vehicle and found the passenger window shattered, with glass on both inside the vehicle and on the asphalt next to it. The woman told officers that she left her purse on the …

St. Eugene Kids Celebrate End of School with BBQ

Along with burgers and parachutes, these kids took a few whacks at a baseball pinata loaded with candy.

The annual fundraiser for St. Eugene's Church was held Thursday at Doctor's Park in Fox Point. Kids swung at a candy-filled pinata, devoured burgers, soda and candy, and played games with a parachute. Organized by third-grade teacher Joe Mirasola, the kids were all smiles and screams of joy. One boy showed his appreciation for Mirasola's yearly barbecues telling him he's a great teacher, before running off to take a crack at the pinata. Mirasola has been a teacher at St. Eugene's school for 14 years, but this is the seventh, or eighth year he's run the barbecue. He couldn't quite remember. But there's more help to keep track of these kids than just Mirasola. "It's wonderful parents and volunteers that help out every year," Mirasola said. …

Vintage Baseball Makes Living History

The Milwaukee Grays play without gloves and with 19th-century rules at Doctors Park.

If you stroll through Doctor’s Park on a Sunday afternoon, kids are playing Frisbee and families are having picnics, but you might be surprised to see a handful of men sporting vintage baseball uniforms and playing without gloves. Fox Point's Doctors Park is home to the vintage “base ball” team, the Milwaukee Grays. The Grays play with an 1860s set of rules and wear replicas of the original uniforms worn during the National League in 1878. They are one of only two vintage baseball teams in Milwaukee; the other is the Milwaukee Cream Cities. It's a mixed bag of ages on this team, ranging from a student in high school to men in their 60s.  Each player is also given a nickname, like they had in the 19th century.  Bill "T-Bone" House is a …
