Orionids Meteor Shower 2012 Peak: When to Watch in Fox Point, Bayside

Shooting stars will be flying early in the morning in the Fox Point and Bayside area. The Orionids meteor shower promises to be a show worth watching.

The offspring of Halley's Comet are about to put on quite a show in the skies of Fox Point and Bayside. Earth will pass through a stream of debris from Halley's Comet beginning Oct. 15, which will give us the benefit of the annual Orionids meteor shower — though you probably won't see much until a bit later. The best place to view the shower is near the northern end of Bayside near the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center or East near Doctors Park (far away from city lights). No viewing parties have been organized in the area, but if you plan to host one please add it to the Fox Point-Bayside Patch calendar.   The shower should be at its peak the night of Saturday, Oct. 20, until just before dawn on Oct. 21. This year, the moon will be setting at…

Park Goers Stay Cool During Tuesday's Summer Scorcher

Doctors Park was busy Tuesday as many residents made their way down to take a dip in the chilled Lake Michigan waters.

While one girl lay buried up to her neck in sand, a little boy darted in and out of the water as it lapped up onto the beach. Another couple shared a kiss at the waters edge and many others laid out on their towels, soaking up the vitamin D.  Tuesday scorched Wisconsinites with temperatures in the high 80s, flirting with the 90s. But those temps didn't hold everyone captive. Many made their way down to Doctors Park As temperatures continue to bake our area Wednesday, how are you staying cool? Tell us in the comments and upload pics of your own showing how you're battling the blazing temperatures.

Along with water balloons, a parachute and a pinata, students from St. Eugene School got to celebrate the beginning of summer with some freshly fried hot dogs and hamburgers at Doctors Park Tuesday. Kids swung at a candy-filled pinata, devoured burgers, soda and candy, and played games with a parachute. Organized by third-grade teacher Joe Mirasola, the kids were all smiles and screams of joy. Mirasola has been a teacher at St. Eugene's school for 15 years, but this is the ninth year he's run the barbecue. He continued to credit the the parent volunteers for
