Frazer, Fonstad Retain Fox Point Village Board Seats

Challenger Terry McGauran garnered 23 percent of the votes Tuesday, but that wasn't quite enough to unseat incumbents Douglas Frazer and Eric Fonstad.

In one of three local contested elections on Tuesday in Fox Point and Bayside, the race to fill two seats on the Fox Point Village Board ended with both incumbents retaining their seats.  Frazer, 55, is a tax and estate planning lawyer who has lived in Fox Point for 19 years. He said the biggest issue facing the village is the 45-year-old swimming pool.  "This will be a large capital project that will require a lot of thought, planning, and creativity on the part of the village board," he said before the election. "I would encourage the board to take the matter up in our next budget deliberations with an eye to beginning work in 2014." Fonstad, 65, is a retired corporate attorney who has lived in the village for nearly 11 years. He said …

Fox Point Taxes Up Slightly as Board OKs $6.9 Million Budget

An extra $525,000 was also inserted into 2013 budget for the Bridge Lane Ravine Footbridge project, brining the village's total budget for the bridge to $1.6 million.

Fox Point taxpayers are going to see a bump in the village portion of their property tax bills next month. The Village Board Thursday approved a $6.9 million budget for 2013 by a 6-1 vote, with Trustee Douglas H. Frazer casting the lone "no" vote. The $6.93 million budget for 2013 is up 1.7 percent from last year's $6.82 million budget. The board also voted to increase the property tax levy to $6.99 million, up 0.5 percent from last year's $6.95 million levy. But Frazer said increasing the levy to cover expenditures that aren't in the budget isn't the right move. Rather than raising taxes for expenses that aren't budgeted, he would have preferred a lower levy. "I think we missed an opportunity because we have the ability to adopt and …

AbFab --- Your ignorance of this issue is showing through. I am not the only person concerned about and fighting against this absurd $2.7 million footbridge. Dozens of people have appeared at the village meetings in opposition to the footbridge fiasco. And a poll (albeit unscientific) of Fox point residents showed 72% opposed to the footbridge. And by the way, why don't you have the courage to …   more ›

Fox Point Trustees Say They May Vote on Footbridge at Next Board Meeting

Trustees say they need information, residents on both side of bridge issue just want a decision.

The Bridge Lane Ravine Footbridge saga continued Tuesday night when nearly 75 people attended the Village Board meeting, leaving a dozen people standing and not enough agendas to go around. The meeting began with a report from The Boldt Company, a construction firm hired to complete a report on the bridge. They offered four different construction options ranging in cost from $1.45 million to $1.75 million. However, each option was laced with concern for the environmental impacts the construction would have on the ravine, which many residents have cited as their largest concern. Residents were chomping at the bit to make their feelings known for and against work on the bridge. President Michael West reminded audience members that the first …

Fox Point 'Chicken Ordinance' Defeated; Trustee Criticizes Resources Spent

After months of debate, chicken ordinance voted down 4-2.

A discussion about chickens lasted four months and cost the village about $5,000 in attorney’s fees, according to one Fox Point trustee. That was too much for Douglas Frazer, who was among four trustees on Tuesday to reject the request from resident Jeff Ziebelman have chickens live on his property. "It's my feeling that we've misplaced our priorities here and we've lost our way," Frazer said. "I'm going to vote no." He contrasted the lengthy dialogue on the “chicken ordinance” with a vote last June to deny the Daughters of Charity permission to live together in a Fox Point home. The women, five unrelated parishioners of St. Vincent de Paul, are part of a group that has ministered in the Milwaukee area since 1842. Village ordinances say …

Kris, maybe what Frazer meant was that if the board is not about to allow any exceptions or changes to life in Fox Point then it certainly shouldn't run up any legal fees before voting on an issue.   more ›
