Nicolet Says New Lights Will Save Big Bucks

Grant, tax credits, energy saving would help pay for "green" project.

In an effort to go green, Nicolet will be switching to eco-friendly lighting in both gymnasiums, the pool and technology education room, a project that is estimated to pay for itself in as little as six months. The work is still in its preliminary stages, but with electric bills totaling between $23,000 and $25,000 per month, the new fluorescent technology at Nicolet is an opportunity to save some money. “We’ve been told to expect that the lights will pay for themselves in certain areas,” said Brian Reiels, the district's director of facility services. “There will be a payback around six months in some areas where the lights are on nearly 24/7, and closer to a year or year-and-a-half in the other areas, so it’s pretty quick.” Reiels says …
