Would You Want Your Elected Official to Take This Pledge ?
If our elected officials treated themselves more like an average American, they would have a better understanding of what is needed, and maybe even work with each other.

Patch plans on comprehensive coverage of the fall elections and would like to enlist the help of local political insiders for their opinions on the issues.
Did you get involved in the recent recall elections? Do you look at any issue through red- or blue-colored glasses? When people ask you "What's your sign?", do you answer "elephant" or "donkey"? Fox Point-Bayside Patch wants to hear from you. With the upcoming August primary and November general elections, Patch is looking for local Republican and Democratic officials and other activists from both parties to take part in a series of political surveys throughout the campaign. If you agree to join, Patch will survey you for your opinion on the issues that matter to your party, and, while you will remain anonymous, the results will be reported on Patches across the state. This requires little time commitment from you. The surveys will arrive…

Supporter of Gov. Scott Walker was arrested for disorderly conduct after a verbal altercation with a few Barrett backers at Milwaukee rally with Clinton.
A vocal supporter of Gov. Scott Walker was arrested for disorderly conduct Friday during a rally for Democrat Tom Barrett that featured former President Bill Clinton. During the morning rally at Pere Marquette Park in Milwaukee, the Walker supporter was holding a sign that read "Support Scott Walker NOT Union Thugs." In the middle of the crowd, he would put his sign in front of other signs supporting Barrett. One Patch reader gives her take on the events: "My husband and I were at the rally standing six feet from him 15 minutes before the rally began, during, and when he was arrested as the rally ended," she writes. "Even before the rally began he was screaming at people near him that held recall signs. Get out the vote volunteers flanked …

Municipalities across the state have submitted an estimated price tag for holding a special election if the recall effort moves forward.
Freedom isn’t free, and neither are recalls. On Tuesday, organizers for the recall effort against Gov. Scott Walker submitted more than one million signatures on petitions. That's a ton of signatures, not figuratively, but quite literally 2,000 pounds of stacked paper in document boxes were delivered via a small moving van and unloaded by a team of volunteers outside the Government Accountability Board offices in Madison. A statewide recall election of the governor could cost more than $9 million and as much as $17 million with a primary, according to numbers released by the GAB on Jan. 6. How does that break down locally? Depending on the community you live in, the total cost for the election could amount to the price tag of a weeklong …

The fundamental differences between Republican incumbent and Democrat challenger have heated up the recall election and left few voters undecided heading into Tuesday.
The political cauldron in the state has been at a steady simmer for the past few months, but on Tuesday it will be brought to a full boil as voters go to the polls in six recall elections throughout Wisconsin. Republican Alberta Darling, of River Hills, will look to defend her 8th Senate District seat from Democratic challenger state Rep. Sandy Pasch, of Whitefish Bay. Related: On the campaign trail with Darling and Pasch With such clear-cut differences between the two candidates, voters in this election will decide whether to continue taking the state on the path it’s on, or correct course. “I truly think our state’s future, if it doesn’t change, is in serious harm,” Pasch said. “We have seen policies that have divided our state, policies…

With the Recall Elections less than a week away, one Fox Point family has made this a mutigenerational affair.
Living along the North Shore, it’s hard to ignore the upcoming Recall Election on Aug. 9 between Rep. Sandy Pasch (D-Whitefish Bay) and Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills). Whether it’s the endless headlines or pamphlets overflowing our mailboxes, people are either eating up or tuning out the political storm. Phoebe Wechsler, her daughter Linda Settler, and Linda’s daughter Carolyn Settler will be working at the Fox Point Police Department’s polling site during the Recall Election. Three generations of women with voting values. “I’m just as pleased as I can be,” Phoebe said. “I realize the values I tried to …

A recap of news and events surrounding the Alberta Darling and Sandy Pasch race for Wisconsin's 8th Senate District, and other recall races in the state.
GOP Files Complaint Over Possible Collusion Between Pasch, Outside Group The State Republican Party is seeking an investigation into whether Democrat Sandy Pasch in the 8th Senate District recall race is coordinating efforts with the special-interest group Citizen Action of Wisconsin, where Pasch sits on the board of directors. Conservative Group Sends Absentee Ballots With Late Return Date Dan Bice, columnist for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, says that fliers are being mailed to Democratic voters telling them to return the absentee ballots to their city clerk before Aug. 11, even though the election date for the two districts receiving the mailers is Aug. 9. Sources in his column say the fliers were received by "card-carrying Democrats …
