Trouble on Fairy Chasm

We have been very lucky that we have avoided any major incidents, especially involving our children who actively play in the area. Sadly, I think we are living on borrowed time.

Bayside Yard Waste Center Closed

Tuesday morning, DPW crews removed the cinder block retaining wall that held mulch. Residents can now bring yard waste and recycling during a monthly, four-hour block when crews will be on hand to help take unwanted materials.

Bayside's unmanned, 24-hour yard waste drop off site is now closed. But the Village Board is trying to turn a problem into an opportunity by adding a service for residents, instead of simply eliminating one.  Village Manager Andy Pederson said DPW crews were out Tuesday morning removing the last of the cinder block retaining wall and repositioning "No Dumping" signs, effectively dismantling the site. The yard waste drop-off site, located on the north end of Village Hall at 201 E. Fairy Chasm Rd., was open 24 hours a day and unsupervised. This allowed residents the flexibility to stop by any time. However, with odd items like toilets and electronics showing up to a site that was only meant for "anything you can pull or trim from your yard…

Bayside's Lion's Gate Vandal Is At It Again

Almost exactly one year ago, someone ripped out dozens of plants that were planted along the historical landmark at Lake Drive and Fairy Chasm Road. Early Friday morning, the plants were removed again and so far, no one know who's to blame.

One year and a week ago, the Lion's Gate Vandal struck Bayside two nights in a row, tearing up plants that had been planted by the village and lining them up, side by side, on the edge of the road. Early Friday morning, Bayside police patrolling in the area discovered that the historical Bayside landmark had been struck again.  According to the report: An officer was patrolling at 2:39 a.m. when he came through the intersection of Lake Drive and Fairy Chasm Road, at the Lion's Gates. He noticed several plants had been ripped from the ground and placed in the roadway.  There were a total of 13 plants that had been removed; 11 of them were placed along the road heading east, side by side, while the other two were placed in the center of Lake…
