Fox Point Hires Consultant for Village Manager Search

The Fox Point Village Board authorized an $8,000 contract to a consulting firm that expects to find a new village manager in roughly four months.

With the resignation of former Village Manager Susan Robertson, the Fox Point Village Board has begun searching for a new municipal administrator. The Fox Point Village Board agreed Monday night to hire Oshkosh-based Public Administration Associates to search for a new village manager. Fox Point will pay the firm $8,000, plus expenses not exceeding $1,000, according to Tom Czaja, the village's police chief and acting village manager. The board interviewed four different consulting firms, and tasked Village President Michael West with the responsibility of drafting the firm's contract with the village. Public Administration Associates will begin its search process immediately and hopes to decide on a final candidate by the end of May, Czaja…

Fox Point Footbridge Gets Boost to $1.6 Million in 2013

Village Board approves $525,000 in extra funds to remove, repair or rebuild nearly 100-year-old pedestrian footbridge.

The Bridge Lane Ravine Footbridge in Fox Point is getting a financial boost next year to $1.6 million with an extra $525,000 approved in the village's 2013 budget.  The budget had already borrowed $1.1 million for the bridge, but after village staff looked over reports from the project consultant, officials decided to boost that by an additional $525,000, bringing the total to $1,636,269. Residents are still expected to raise $625,000 to fund repair, replacement or removal of the infamous footbridge.  Not everyone thinks the bridge is worth the money, however. Patch reader and Fox Point resident Larry Booth  had this to say: "It's important to note that the $2.26 million cost of this obscure and unnecessary footbridge ($1.6 million in the …

Dick --- I really like your idea for lookout platforms. By the way, there are about 2,500 homes in Fox Point. That is $1,100 in taxes per hosehold to pay for this absurd footbridge!   more ›

Fox Point Taxes Up Slightly as Board OKs $6.9 Million Budget

An extra $525,000 was also inserted into 2013 budget for the Bridge Lane Ravine Footbridge project, brining the village's total budget for the bridge to $1.6 million.

Fox Point taxpayers are going to see a bump in the village portion of their property tax bills next month. The Village Board Thursday approved a $6.9 million budget for 2013 by a 6-1 vote, with Trustee Douglas H. Frazer casting the lone "no" vote. The $6.93 million budget for 2013 is up 1.7 percent from last year's $6.82 million budget. The board also voted to increase the property tax levy to $6.99 million, up 0.5 percent from last year's $6.95 million levy. But Frazer said increasing the levy to cover expenditures that aren't in the budget isn't the right move. Rather than raising taxes for expenses that aren't budgeted, he would have preferred a lower levy. "I think we missed an opportunity because we have the ability to adopt and …

AbFab --- Your ignorance of this issue is showing through. I am not the only person concerned about and fighting against this absurd $2.7 million footbridge. Dozens of people have appeared at the village meetings in opposition to the footbridge fiasco. And a poll (albeit unscientific) of Fox point residents showed 72% opposed to the footbridge. And by the way, why don't you have the courage to …   more ›

Fox Point Reluctantly Approves NSFD Funding Formula

Board President Michael West said he wouldn't characterize Fox Point's contribution as "fair," however, he pledged to work "night and day" to help create a mutually agreeable formula between all seven municipalities.

Although many members of the Fox Point Village Board members publically cited concerns with the "fairness" of the North Shore Fire Department's funding formula, the resolution was approved Tuesday with a three-year sunset period. "I wouldn't characterize these as necessarily fair, but they're all we've got," Village President Michael West said. "I've never said that 10.31 represents what I will characterize as 'our fair share.' I believe that our fair share needs to be set an active, seven-way negotiation on a new formula."  NSFD is a shared service among seven communities: Bayside, Brown Deer, Fox Point, Glendale, River Hills, Shorewood and Whitefish Bay. But the fire department doesn't have any taxing or borrowing authority, so each of …

Fox Point Lends $30,000 to Footbridge Fundraising Effort

Footbridge Friends originally requested $45,450 in public funds to pay a professional fundraiser to raise their $625,000 share for a new footbridge.

A fundraising group charged with raising $625,000 for the replacement of the Bridge Lane Ravine Footbridge went before the Village Board Monday night requesting $45,450 in start-up money to pay for a fundraising consultant. At a meeting attended by a dozen residents, the Fox Point Village Board instead decided to limit the initial seed money to $30,000, with the option of providing more money in the future. Trustees also required the group reimburse the money to the village. The fundraising group, Footbridge Friends, Inc., was recently incorporated with $1,500 in assistance from the village. The group has been tasked by trustees to raise $625,000 in donations, which is roughly half of the cost of construction a new bridge — not including …

I'm laughing on this one. The Village of Fox Point will never see the $30,000 that has been loaned for fundraising. Intent means nothing. How about putting up some collateral or something collectible. BTW, if after all the time that has passed and all of the "free" press coverage this bridge fiasco has received you still have no $$, haven't been able to organize a legitimate fundraising effort …   more ›

Village Contracts Green Tree Road Reconstruction For More Than $850,000

The project includes replacing parts of the storm sewer and water main, and constructing a pedestrian path.

In an effort to improve Green Tree Road, the village is pumping more than $850,000 into a comprehensive project that will replace parts of the storm sewer and water main, reconstruct the road, and add a pedestrian path. The work will be done by Reeseman's Excavating & Grading from Burlington, and the money will be spent as follows: An additional $9,750 is allocated to replace the pedestrian path between Quarles Place and Links Way. Public Works Director Scott Brandmeier said he believes Glendale will make an adjoining path. Village board members also had to decide Tuesday whether to take the opportunity to widen the sewer pipes under Green Tree Road as a means of alleviating flooding in the area. "I thought I’d be remiss not discussing …

Two New Businesses Soon to Call Fox Point Home

A build-your-own yogurt and smoothie shop and a resale clothing store will move into Bradley Place and RiverPoint Shopping Center.

RiverPoint and Bradley Place Shopping Centers will soon be welcoming new shops to their properties after unanimous approval by the Fox Point Village Board on Tuesday night. Red Mango Yogurt and Smoothies is a do-it-yourself yogurt and smoothie shop that allows patrons to stack up the goodies and create their own sweet — and relatively healthy — icy treats. Peter and Elizabeth Braatz of Thiensville will run the Fox Point location that will make its new, 1,465-square-foot home in the RiverPoint Shopping Center in the old Learning Shop location. "Our niche is that it's a healthy, frozen dessert," Peter Braatz said during the Plan Commission meeting. "So, most of our toppings are fruits, nuts and granolas and some cereals, and a few sweet …

Fox Point Trustees Say They May Vote on Footbridge at Next Board Meeting

Trustees say they need information, residents on both side of bridge issue just want a decision.

The Bridge Lane Ravine Footbridge saga continued Tuesday night when nearly 75 people attended the Village Board meeting, leaving a dozen people standing and not enough agendas to go around. The meeting began with a report from The Boldt Company, a construction firm hired to complete a report on the bridge. They offered four different construction options ranging in cost from $1.45 million to $1.75 million. However, each option was laced with concern for the environmental impacts the construction would have on the ravine, which many residents have cited as their largest concern. Residents were chomping at the bit to make their feelings known for and against work on the bridge. President Michael West reminded audience members that the first …
