Nicolet dropped a 38-35 decision to rival Whitefish Bay in a North Shore Conference game, but should still share the conference crown heading into difficult tournament bracket.
Nicolet might have to settle for a share of the North Shore Conference girls basketball crown this year after dropping a hard-fought game to an equally talented rival in Whitefish Bay, 38-35 on Friday. Bay, Nicolet and Grafton all have 11-2 league records. Whitefish Bay's last game is Thursday against Homestead (3-10 conference). Grafton closes at Milwaukee Lutheran (1-12 conference) and Nicolet's last game is against Germantown (6-7 conference). All three teams will be heavily favored to win and complete the three-way tie. The Blue Dukes lost at Nicolet earlier this season, struggling with the Knights' pressure defense. Points were hard to come by for everyone in the second matchup; only seven players scored at all, according to the …

Top-ranked team in Division 1 takes on No. 4-ranked team in Division 2.
Two of the state’s best girls basketball teams are just 3.2 miles apart on Milwaukee’s North Shore. Friday night, Whitefish Bay (11-0 overall, 6-0 North Shore Conference) makes the short bus ride to Nicolet (12-0, 6-0 conference) to settle the question of which is better. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. and Patch plans to produce video highlights. The Knights have won 28 consecutive games overall, along the way capturing the WIAA Division 1 state title last March. Two graduates from that team moved on to NCAA Division 1 teams (Alex Cohen, Northwestern; Ashley Green, UW-Milwaukee) but the Knights have continued to roll. Girls advance to 5-0 in conference after clobbering Cedarburg 54-33 on Friday night.
The Nicolet High School girls basketball team maintained its perfect record in the North Shore Conference, whipping the Cedarburg Bulldogs 54-33 on Friday. “We’re very athletic and when our kids work hard defensively, it fuels our offense,” Coach Corey Wolf said about the Knights (11-0, 5-0 NSC), who have won 27 consecutive games. One player that has put it all together this year is senior Brittney Fair, who recently won the Army National Guard Athlete of the Week for her efforts in the Rathke Memorial Tournament. Fair was the leading scorer against Cedarburg, matching her season average of 20 points. Wolf said Fair not only is a great scorer, but she and fellow senior captains Courtney Smith and Rebecca Olin provide stellar leadership. “I…

Alex Cohen, Gaby Bronson and Ashley Green help the Division 1 North All-Stars rout the South, 59-37, in WBCA All-Stars Games in Madison.
If a high school reunion was as fun as the one Nicolet’s Alex Cohen, Gaby Bronson and Ashley Green staged Friday morning at University of Wisconsin-Madison Field House, no one would ever miss them. Playing on the second unit for the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 1 North All-Stars just three months after winning a state championship, the three Knights finished with a combined 19 points to lead the North to a 59-37 victory over the South All-Stars. Cohen made the biggest impact of three Nicolet stars, scoring eight points and chipping in nine rebounds. “It was a great week of playing basketball,” said Cohen, who will play basketball at Northwestern this fall. “And it was even better to finish it with a victory.” Green …

Nicolet took home the WIAA Division 1 state championship on Saturday against Middleton and here's a pictorial recap of the big game.
With tears and screams of joy, the Nicolet Knights girls basketball team accepted their trophy after trumping Middleton in the WIAA Division 1 state championship on Saturday. After a tight first three quarters, Nicolet took the lead and finished up with a 58-54 win. “Once we picked up our defense and were able to stop (Middleton guard Kerry) Gardner, I mean — she made us work real hard in the first half,” Nicolet senior Ashley Green said. “But when we came out of halftime we all kind of had a lot more energy and once we started picking up our defense it kind of just flowed, our offense just worked. Once you start getting easy baskets and stuff like that your emotions go high and are crazy.”
