With 0-0 at the third, it was a very close game.
In the Sectional 4 Final of the state tournament playoffs in Beaver Dam on Saturday afternoon, the number 3 seed, the University School Co-op girls hockey team, lost to the top-seeded Capital City Co-op of Sun Prairie 2-0. It was a long drawn-out afternoon because of an unfortunate injury and because of poor planning and Zamboni problems at the Beaver Dam Family Center. The game was a defensive battle, particularly in the first two periods during which the Cougars’ senior goalie Jenna Beilke-Skoug and USM’s sophomore goalkeeper Emily Wigdale prevented every shot on net from going past them. The defenders in front of them kept the shooters to the outside and cleared rebounds quickly. Each team also killed several penalties, and USM stopped…

Wild Cats kept the Big Red off the score board for much of the game.
The University School of Milwaukee (USM) boys’ basketball team defeated Wayland Academy 71-42 in a Midwest Classic North game at Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam Tuesday night. Wayland held an early lead at 5-2, but the rest of the game was in USM’s hands. With the sixth best defense in the Milwaukee area, the Wildcats kept the Big Red off the scoreboard until the final seconds of the first quarter while cranking up their own offense. USM outscored Wayland 14-3 for the rest of the first eight minutes and took a 16-8 lead into the second quarter. Junior Josh Baker led the Wildcats with 8 points in the quarter. Senior Jason Pickart, Juniors Tommy Pennington and Greg Booth, and sophomore Julien Addison each had 2 points for USM. Wayland …

The USM Wildcats played a solid game but come up one goal short.
The USM Wildcats girls hockey team hosted the Fond du Lac Warbirds on Tuesday at University School and lost 2-1. The Wildcats are a combined team with players from University School, Whitefish Bay, Nicolet and Homestead. The game began with steady pressure from Fond du Lac, keeping Wildcats goalie Emily Wigdale on her heels for most of the first period. At 12:42 of the first period, Warbirds junior Stacey Stobb scored the first goal of the game with assists from senior Mack Katlin and sophomore Sami Gibson. “I honestly thought we did a nice job,” said Wildcats head coach Jason Woods. “We had better scoring chances but their goalie (Jade Van Buren) made some great saves.” With four minutes left in the period the Wildcats struck back off a …
