Municipal Leaders Will Continue to Work to Restore Paramedic Funding

Mayors and village presidents met Monday in Franklin to discuss the County Board's recent decision to restore half of the funding taken out of the budget by County Executive Chris Abele.

Some municipal leaders said they will continue to do all they can to provide paramedic services residents of Milwaukee County have grown accustomed to, and that they will keep fighting to restore all of the $3 million County Executive Chris Abele took from the county’s paramedic program. Others feel they have done all they can, and when county residents realize how lower funds impacts service, it will be the municipal leaders with clean hands. “We’ve done all we can do. The blood will not lay at our feet. I find it interesting that everybody is all for cuts to everything but their own slice of the pie. Abele has proved to be anti labor and law enforcement but this is the only thing that upsets Greendale. Abele can brag about his budget but he merely shifted County tax to village tax. Milwaukee County Board Votes to Restore Some EMS Funding

Supervisor approves $1.5 million in emergency services subsidies to municipalities, but there are strings attached to deal.

The Milwaukee County Board Monday — on a veto-proof vote of 15-4 — approved a budget amendment that would restore $1.5 million to the county’s Emergency Medical Services subsidy. The amendment was presented by the board’s Finance Committee in response to County Executive Chris Abele’s plan to eliminate the entire $3 million that the 19 county municipalities would have received in 2012 for EMS personnel and training.  However, there are conditions on the money: If the municipalities don’t agree to the conditions, the board will withhold the subsidy.   Supervisors Mark Borkowski, Willie Johnson, Joe Sanfelippo and James "Luigi" Schmitt voted against the measure.
