The "openly black" congresswoman talked politics and pretended to ride motorcycles with the comedic talk show host Wednesday night.
U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore is the latest politician to take a political risk and appear on The Colbert Report with comedian Stephen Colbert. If you're not familiar with the show, Colbert takes on the role of an exaggerated right-wing talk show host. In his "Better Know a District" segment, he has poked fun at about 80 U.S. representatives, with the ambitious goal of reaching all 435 congressional districts. Moore represents Wisconsin's 4th Congressional District, which recently expanded to include Shorewood, Whitefish Bay, Fox Point, Glendale and Bayside. On last night's show, Colbert asked Moore to expand on her thoughts about Rep. Paul Ryan's budget, which she has said favors the rich. Moore said America should be more akin to a family, in …

Janet Hinz, an adjunct college instructor, will run against Dan Sebring in a Republican primary battle to challenge Democratic incumbent Gwen Moore, who now represents Fox Point and Bayside.
(This story was updated at 3:07 p.m. May 2 to include Dan Sebring's candidacy for the 4th District Congressional seat.) Whitefish Bay's Janet Hinz will face off against fellow Republican candidate Dan Sebring in a primary battle to challenge five-term incumbent Democrat Gwen Moore in the November 2014 election. Hinz, 42, is an adjunct instructor in the Business and English Department at Cardinal Stritch University. She and her husband Jason have lived in Whitefish Bay for 12 years with their three children, Molly, Clark and Clara. Hinz characterizes herself as a moderate Republican, and said she is fed up with extreme points of views dividing the nation. “America needs critical thinkers, and the people of Wisconsin’s 4th Congressional …

None of the U.S. elected officials from Wisconsin particularly cared for the deal hammered out to avoid the "fiscal cliff" — and that includes those who voted for it.
The "fiscal cliff" was averted Tuesday when the U.S. House handily passed a bill approved a day earlier in the U.S. Senate that raised taxes on the wealthy and staved off a tax increase for the middle-class. The bill passed 257-167 in the House, a comfortable 40 votes more than what was needed to become law. Among the congressmen serving southeastern Wisconsin, U.S. Reps. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI 5th District) and Tom Petri (R-WI 6th District) voted "no" on the measure, while U.S. Reps. Paul Ryan (R- WI 1st District) and Gwen Moore (D- WI 4th District) cast "yes" votes. U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI 7th District), who now serves the Hudson area, voted no. The U.S. Senate passed the bill 89-8 on Monday with Republican Ron Johnson and Democrat …

The Democratic congresswoman will serve her fifth term in the House of Representatives with a decisive win over Republican Dan Sebring. It's her first term in a new district, covering Milwaukee's North Shore.
Democratic Congresswoman Gwen Moore easily won a fifth term in the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, despite seeing more Republican communities added to her 4th Congressional District this year. Moore received 72 percent of the vote in her victory over two-time Republican challenger Dan Sebring, a former member of the Navy who now runs a car repair business in Milwaukee. With 92 percent of precincts reporting, Sebring had 25 percent of the vote. "We have been through so much in the last two years," Moore said in her victory speech. "But we just dug in, clicked our jaws down like good Badgers and hung in there." The 4th Congressional District previously covered the City of Milwaukee, and has historically been the most Democratic …

Democratic incumbent Gwen Moore faces two challengers in Tuesday's election.
U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore and her Republican opponent Dan Sebring freely admit their philosophies are polar opposites of one another. Moore is a proud Democrat who describes her accomplishments as multifold: Being a champion for vulnerable populations, such as the elderly, single mothers, the poor and children; defending against what she sees as U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan’s excesses on the House Budget Committee; and working to protect the country against financial abuses. “We put together some of the toughest language to try to keep the worst abuses of the financial crisis from occurring again,” she said. “As for the Budget Committee, I have really played a lot of defense on the Budget Committee. Paul Ryan’s budgets have continued to be more and more…

An estimated 2,500 Obama supporters from Milwaukee and across the world came to Bradley Tech High School Thursday afternoon to hear the First Lady's call to action to get out the vote in November.
After coming so close to meeting President Barack Obama when he came to Racine, 13-year-old Michelle Payne's dreams came true Thursday when Michelle Obama finished a campaign speech at Bradley Tech High School, patted her on the head, hugged her and told her she was proud of her. "It was an ecstatic feeling, something I will probably never feel again in my life," the Racine girl said. "She's my role model. I just started crying, and when she hugged me I didn't want to let go." Payne's emotional experience was echoed by many in the crowd of roughly 2,500 Obama supporters from across Milwaukee and the world who attended the First Lady's speech at Bradley Tech High School Thursday afternoon. In her speech, she recalled growing up lower class …

Milwaukee mayor and gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett welcomed another endorsement, from U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, in his campaign to unseat Gov. Scott Walker. In other news, see details on the latest poll on the Democratic primary.
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett picked up another endorsement Monday, from U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Milwaukee), in his push to grab the Democratic nod and unseat Gov. Scott Walker in June's recall election. Voters are a little more than three weeks away from tapping Walker's Democratic challenger, and Barrett was on the campaign trail in Milwaukee touting how his administration would end Wisconsin's political civil war and restore collective bargaining and tax fairness, while fielding the endorsement from Moore. Barrett will square off against former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout (D-Alma) and Secretary of State Doug La Follette in a Democratic primary May 8. The winner will take on Walker on June 5. Barrett …

Friends who work at the House say Moore is one of a few House Members that are laughed at. She is BEYOND incompetent and has not clue what she is doing most of time. I think it is HILARIOUS that the people of Shorewood allow her to represent them. Is there not ANY other flaming libtard that could take her place (not that I am endorsing someone who might actually DO something; I am fine with her …   more ›
