The Village Scrapbook: Chili Cook-Off Heats Up

Nine chefs craft chili masterpieces for more than 100 taste-testers.

Jean Bernstein of the Maple Dale-Indian Hill PTO submitted these pictures of the fourth annual Chili Cook-Off that took place Thursday evening. Here's what she had to say about the event: Nine chili chefs created their own, original chili masterpieces complete with a distinctive name for each pot of chili and creative table decorations. More than 100 people attended the cook-off which included all-you-can-eat chili, noodles, fruit, bread and chili fixings. The People's Choice Award went to "It's a Great Pumpkin Chili," crafted by the Jaglinski Family. Best table decorations went to "FDNY 3 Alarm Fire," by the Scheferman Family. Dragon Dash Makes Benefit Run a Full Family Event

More than 500 runners and walkers are expected to take part in fun run Sunday.

For runners and walkers, it's a multifaceted approach to doing a handful of good deeds all in one shot Sunday - help feed the hungry, get some exercise, laugh and play with the dragon and more - at the Maple Dale-Indian Hill Schools Dragon Dash 5K Run/Walk and kids 400 meter dash. This fun run begins at 9 a.m. will feature a scenic course winding through River Hills and won't be officially timed. There will also be a food drive to benefit Feeding America. “It is so exciting,” said Jean Bernstein, who co-chairs the run with Pam Schefernan. Bernstein is also vice president of the PTO for the Maple Dale Indian Hill School District. “It’s going to be held at Indian Hill school out on the playground and then the 5K Run/Walk will go through …
