Knights Update

Lady Knights Basketball Team Remains Undefeated

New alumni athletes section on Nicolet athletics website.

The Nicolet High School boys basketball team is now 2-4 after dropping a pair of games last week at Milwaukee Lutheran 46-45 and at home vs. Port Washington 56-42. Early this season, injuries have forced the Knights to play without their regular line-up and without much depth. In the 1-point loss to Lutheran, Eugene Bonner scored 14 and Greg Pigg added 11 as the Knights comeback from a nine point halftime deficit fell just short. Friday against Port, Bonner was again the Knights leading scorer with 20 and Treland Jenkins scored 13. This week, the boys travel to Grafton High School on Tuesday and host Racine Horlick on Thursday. They will also play in the Luke Homan Memorial Holiday Tournament at Brookfield Central Dec. 29 and 30. The girls…

You Can Meet a Lot of People in 46 Years of Coaching

Ted Wachs won't be involved in sports at Nicolet High School for the first time in nearly half a century.

History is nothing more than names and dates, woven together by their relationships. Nicolet High School history is simply Ted Wachs. After coaching five different sports over 46 years, this former history teacher is a walking archive. An unreformed storyteller, Wachs drops names of soccer goalkeepers from 25 years ago with the same ease that he mentions the famous folks he has met while working at The Bog Golf Course. “He seems to know a goodly number of people he’s met, he remembers their names, he can carry on good conversations with them,” said Jim Liska, who was the athletic director at Nicolet for 12 years. Wachs retired from coaching at the end of the spring boys golf season, closing a career that began unexpectedly in 1966. He’d …
