Fox Point, Bayside Voters Choose Thompson for Senate

Voter turnout in both villages eclipsed the estimates of 20 percent, but not by too much. Did you get out to vote? Tell us in the comments why you did or didn't vote in this election.

Turnout for both Fox Point and Bayside was a bit more than the anticipated 20 percent, with 2,190 ballots cast between both towns for the Aug. 14 partisan primary. Lynn Galyardt, director of finance and administration for Bayside, said there were a total of 806 ballots cast including both Milwaukee and Ozaukee Counties, with 102 absentee ballots cast.  In Fox Point, Clerk Tanya O'Malley said voter turnout was just a bit ahead of the anticipated 20 percent, totaling 26.7 percent. There were 1,384 ballots cast with 167 absentee ballots turned in.  In the end, voters in both towns went for former Gov. Tommy Thompson.  Here's how the numbers shake out: Former Gov. Local Absentee Voting for Recall on Higher Pace than 2008 Presidential Election

Bayside Village Hall will be open for 12 hours Tuesday through Friday of next week to accommodate a record number of absentee voters in 2012 Wisconsin Recall election.

As the last leg of the Wisconsin recall election begins this week, a significant number of people have requested absentee ballots in Bayside, pushing Village Hall to extend their hours to 12-hour shifts Tuesday through Thursday.  "I have never seen the traffic at Village Hall like we have now," Village Manager Andy Pederson said. "If people want to come in and vote, we'll be here from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m." On Thursday, opening day for absentee voting, 8 percent of Bayside voters requested absentee ballots. Pederson said officials are expecting somewhere between 15 and 20 percent of voters to vote absentee prior to election day. That's more than the 13.2 percent who voted absentee for the 2008 presidential election.  In Fox Point, as of Friday…

Barrett Takes Fox Point, Bayside By a Landslide

In Fox Point and Bayside, Barrett won by an even higher percentage than in the rest of Milwaukee County.

While Tom Barrett outpolled Kathleen Falk by about a 3-to-1 margin countywide in Tuesday's recall primary, he took Fox Point and Bayside by a landslide of nearly 4-to-1 against his leading Democratic opponent.  A grand total of 3,646 ballots were cast in both villages and while neither had any major machine problems as in some other elections, there was an issue with voters thinking they could, essentially, vote for everyone.  With a solid turnout of 43 percent, and a total of 1,442 ballots cast, Bayside voters handily chose Barrett over the four other candidates and had only one write-in.  The big issues with voters, however, was the misconception that they could vote for anybody and everybody.  "They're on the ballot one after another so…

Yep, the Redux was just longer and uglier than the original. And the $18,000,000 ticket price was way out of line.   more ›

Fox Point and Bayside Escape Ballot Errors Unscathed

Testing done in advance of the April 3 General Election has discovered a flaw in the election ballots sent to many cities and municipalities in Milwaukee County, but Fox Point and Bayside hadn't received theirs yet so they remain unaffected.

As if city clerks didn’t already have enough on their plates, along comes the case of the misprinted ballots. Luckily, Fox Point and Bayside missed that bullet. Testing done in advance of the April 3 General Election has discovered a flaw in the election ballots sent to many cities and municipalities in Milwaukee County. "The error with the ballots was discovered before Fox Point’s ballots had been delivered so we do not have any flawed ballots," Tanya O'Malley, Fox Point Village Clerk said. Bayside's Director of Finance and Administration Lynn Galyardt said said she was scheduled to test the ballots Tuesday for both Milwaukee and Ozaukee Counties, however, she will now have to reschedule the Milwaukee County test. "It is an inconvenience…

TOTAL RECALL: State Senate Showdown

Fox Point, Bayside Fully Equipped for Election Day

Candidates say it's all about turnout, and both village clerks say they're ready to go.

After weeks of going door-to-door, volunteers tirelessly making phone calls day after day, and both candidates shaking hands and smiling for interviews, Election Day has arrived. Beginning 7 a.m. Tuesday, voters will hit the polls to choose between incumbent Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) and her challenger, Rep. Sandy Pasch (D-Whitefish Bay). For weeks, both have been filling Facebook with 'thanks you's' and photos, and tweeting about events information and election details in an effort to find the last few votes. While each has drastically different viewpoints on government, they both agree on one thing, it's all about turnout for this election, and both Fox Point and Bayside village clerks agree, it's going to be one busy day …

TOTAL RECALL: State Senate Showdown

Absentee Voting Deadline is Friday

About 6 percent of residents have cast in-person absentee ballots so far in both Bayside and Fox Point, and the deadline is Friday at 5 p.m.

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a pivotal recall election coming up on Tuesday and it will be one of the rare times residents in Wisconsin get to vote in the heat of the summer. However, if you have big plans or will be out of town on Tuesday, there’s still a week left to cast an absentee ballot at Bayside and Fox Point village halls.  Due to the recently enacted voter identification bill, voters won’t be able to register on Aug. 8, the Monday before the election. Registering and in-person absentee voting ends Friday at 5 p.m. Voters can register at the polls on Election Day. Applications for absentee ballots through the mail must arrive at the clerk’s office by 5 p.m. Thursday. Lynn Galyardt, Bayside's director of finance and …
