New Bayside Village Assistant Already in the Loop

Ryan Luke enjoys work in the Village of Bayside.

Ryan Luke just started work as a management assistant for the Village of Bayside but already feels settled into his new job.  “It’s normal, not abnormally busy,” Luke said Thursday morning inside the cozy offices of Village Hall. Things seemed pretty under control for a guy who works with the village manager, building inspector, and the director of finance and administration throughout the day. On top of that, he helps create all three newsletters, runs the architectural review committee. Even as he speaks, he’s updating the village calendar at his desk.  Yet, Luke embraces everything he and the other village assistant get assigned throughout the day. “We’re both getting a lot of experience in different areas,” he says. Water Main Break Left Businesses Without Water

Emergency construction work was needed Thursday to fix a water main break underneath Burghardt's Sporting Goods in Fox Point.

“[We] started at 7 p.m.” Paul Haugen said after emerging from a small swimming pool-sized mud pit, behind Burghardt’s Sporting Goods, 8625 N. Port Washington Road, on a chilly Thursday morning. With mud covering his clothes and bags under his eyes, Fox Point’s water utility foreman explained the village’s water utility crew worked through the night to repair an emergency water main break beneath the sporting goods store. “Fresh Market and Aurora Health Care are out of water,” he said. Only moments passed before he climbed back down into the pit to return water to the businesses that need it.

What Are Your Favorite Spots In Milwaukee?

We've got this cool thing down and Milwaukee made MSN's top 10 coolest cities in the midwest, but we could show off our coolness a little more in our photo gallery.

Milwaukee made MSN's list of the top 10 coolest cities in the midwest, but we know there's a lot more cool to be had than just a few photos of SummerFest, the Milwaukee Brewers stadium and the Milwaukee Art Museum. We define cool here because well... it's cold here and we tend to warm up with a beer or two, and hey, cool things just naturally happen. So we wondered if you would upload a few pictures of what defines Milwaukee's coolness. I already added a few of my favorites.

Get rid of barrett, the mayor, get rid of abele, the county exec, change the Milwaukee Common Council, change the County Board (Make them smaller) Keep Sheriff Clarke, build the high-rise where the lake front transit center is. Don't have a trolley line, add more small busses. Cutluraly, I think it's a great city with lots of activities. If you can't find something to do in the Milwaukee area, …   more ›

Lab Retriever Again Tops Most Popular Breed List

But the mighty bulldog pushes its way into the Top 5, as the American Kennel Club releases the annual list that gets everyone talking. Share your photos of your favorite breed!

The American Kennel Club released its annual list of the most popular breeds in America, and for the 22nd year in a row, the Labrador retriever is Number 1. The 2012 Top Ten list had a few shake-ups, as the Yorkshire terrier dropped to sixth place and the bulldog moved into fifth. The golden retriever and beagle also swapped spots between 2011 and 2012. "Bigger breeds are making their move," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson in a press release. "The popularity of the pint-sized, portable pooch just gave way to a litter of larger breeds in the Top 10. These predictable, durable, steady breeds, like Labs and Goldens, are great with kids and offer the whole family more dog to love. Here is the full list: Here is the AKC's ranking of all 177…

Thanks for the comment, Chris. How would you suggest they improve the service? I checked prices at other malls, like Southridge, and they seem pretty similar. Any other ideas to improve this?   more ›
