NESQUIK Chocolate Powder Recalled for Salmonella

Nestle is recalling NESQUIK Chocolate Powder from store shelves for potential Salmonella contamination.

Information from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration: Nestlé USA has announced the voluntary recall of limited quantities of Nestlé NESQUIK® Chocolate Powder in the 10.9, 21.8 and 40.7 ounce canisters. The voluntary recall is limited to only NESQUIK Chocolate Powder, which was distributed nationally. No other varieties of NESQUIK powder or any sizes or flavors of NESQUIK ready-to-drink are affected by this recall. Nestlé is removing the canisters from distribution because the company was notified by an ingredient supplier, Omya Inc. that it has issued a recall of certain lots of its ingredient, calcium carbonate due to possible presence of Salmonella. Calcium carbonate is used in NESQUIK as an ingredient. There have been no reports of …

Whitefish Bay Professor Running Write-in Campaign Against Alberta Darling

The state senator of the 8th District, Darling survived contentious recall a year ago and her only challenge on Nov. 6 is Beth Lueck, a UW-Whitewater professor running a write-in campaign.

A Whitefish Bay professor has launched a last-minute write-in campaign against state Sen. Alberta Darling that has picked up some momentum. Beth Lueck, an English professor at UW-Whitewater, said she believes voters deserve a choice in the 8th Senate District. Supporters have been publicizing the effort on social media and blogs. The state Democratic Party is also pushing the write-in candidacy. However, Darling told Patch that voters' choices should be educated ones. She said that voters have even less of a reason to not re-elect her than they did in the high-profile recall election she survived because Act 10’s reforms are becoming apparent. “Act 10, daily, there are positive results,” she said. “In terms of taxes, municipalities are …

Excedrin Migraine Shipping Soon to a Store Near You

Product has been off store shelves since it was recalled in January for damaged pills.

Migraine sufferers, relief is in sight. Novartis, the manufacturer of Excedrin, announced Monday in an email to customers that Excedrin Migraine, which has been off the market since a January recall, is being shipped to stores this week. Excedrine Migraine was one of several products recalled by Novartis in January after an internal investigation and registered complaints of "broken gelcaps, chipped tablets and inconsistent bottle packaging line clearance practices." Locally, a CVS pharmacist said all Excedrin products are still off the shelves, but they do offer a generic version of the headache medicine. He said the store is due for an order shipment Wednesday, so it's possible the medication may come in then.  Get more from Fox Point-…

Fox Point Flips for Walker and Bayside Stays With Barrett in Recall Election

Comparing results to Tom Barrett and Scott Walker's face off in 2010, Fox Point shifted its support from Barrett to Walker while Bayside held steady for Barrett in both elections.

With record numbers of voters making their way to the polls Tuesday, Fox Point and Bayside were split in their support for who should govern Wisconsin. Lines were out the door at Longacre Pavilion in Fox Point already at just 10:30 a.m., which Fox Point Village Hall Clerk Tanya O'Malley said is normally a slow period. "This time of day is normally quiet, this is normally a down time because it's between school, work and the lunch hour," O'Malley said. "I don't know if this is representative of what a down time is going to look like today. The morning was busier." It was a good representation, it turned out. Including some of the absentee ballots, more than 750 people cast their ballot before 11 a.m. The final Fox Point total was 4,037 …

Once again, are you guys calling DA Chisholm a LIAR? Sure looks like it to me! Barrett: Walker is Attacking Cops By Questioning Milwaukee Crime Stats

Milwaukee mayor and Gov. Scott Walker exchange barbs over the misreporting of Milwaukee's crime data.

Gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett Thursday blasted Gov. Scott Walker for vilifying the Milwaukee Police Department for what Barrett says was a miscalculation of crime statistics — an issue that has become political fodder on the campaign trail in recent days.  "Shame on Governor Walker if he impugns the integrity of the beat cops of the Milwaukee Police Department because these are men and women that put their lives on the line every single day," the Milwaukee mayor said during a press conference. Milwaukee's crime data became an issue in gubernatorial recall race after the Journal Sentinel published a story earlier this week that indicated the Milwaukee Police Department may have misreported more than 500 assault cases since 2009 to the…

Gov. Scott Walker Announces Manufacturing Jobs on State Tour

He was at Jensen Metal Products in Caledonia Monday afternoon to announce the addition of 39 jobs. He earlier announced 350 new jobs at a plant in Neenah.

It will take baby steps for the state of Wisconsin to get the 250,000 new jobs Gov. Scott Walker promised on the campaign trail in 2010 and recommitted to over the weekend, he said Monday. Walker made the statement while speaking to about 50 employees of Jensen Metal Products, when he stopped in Caledonia while campaigning for the June 5 recall election. Walker announced Monday that Jensen Metal Products will expand its manufacturing operation, creating 39 new jobs, thanks to $2 million in tax credits through the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation over the next several years. The announcement came just a few hours after Walker was in Neenah to announce Plexus Corp., another manufacturing company, is planning to create up to 350 …

Obama Campaign Getting Involved in Wisconsin Recall Election

President's campaign sends e-mail to Obama supporters urging them to vote for Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in June 5 recall election of Gov. Scott Walker.

President Barack Obama's re-election campaign is actively getting behind the effort to recall Gov. Scott Walker from office, The Huffington Post reports. The campaign is focusing its efforts on educating and registering voters in advance of the historic June 5 gubernatorial recall election. Tripp Wellde, the Wisconsin state director for the Obama campaign, sent an email to supporters Thursday night, urging them to support Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Walker's Democratic opponent. The Obama campaign also hosted "Own Your Vote" events around the state this weekend, described as "organizing phone banks and knocking on doors to make sure Wisconsinites are registered and ready to own their vote on Election Day," according to The Huffington Post…

Did More Than 100,000 Republicans Cross Over to Vote in Democratic Primary?

A closer look at the numbers in Tuesday recall primary indicates that many Republicans cast ballots in Democratic race for governor. If that's true, GOP turnout was much larger than it appears.

There were 614,511 ballots cast in the Republican primary for governor in 2010. That was a contested race between then Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker and former Congressman Mark Neumann. Walker, running nearly unopposed in Tuesday’s recall, received 626,538 votes. That’s nearly a 2 percent increase in Republican voters from 2010, despite just token opposition for Walker, and does not include crossover votes of Republicans voting in the Democratic primary (most likely for Kathleen Falk). To put the Republican turnout in perspective, Walker’s 626,538 vote total was equal to 91.4% of the total votes cast for all of the Democratic candidates and the Democratic protest candidate running as a Republican. In 2010, Milwaukee Mayor Tom …
