The Schlitz Audubon Nature Preschool celebrating its 10th year this fall, alumni are invited to attend a special reunion event to connect with old friends, visit the classrooms, hike on the nature center trails and help with a service project.

Car Window Smashed for Purse Grab at SANC

Thief got away with her social security card, a $100 savings bond, debit card and more.

A 36-year-old woman was the victim of a car break-in at the Schlitz Audubon Center Tuesday morning. She told Bayside police she had arrived at the center to drop off her daughter and parked in the lot, next to the employee parking lot at 8:25 a.m. About 20 minutes later, another woman came into the center and told her that the driver-side window had been shattered. According to the police report, the window was shattered and small pieces of glass were on the passenger and driver seat, as well as on the ground next to the vehicle. Her purse, valued at $30, had been stolen. The damage to the window was estimated at $180. She also lost her driver’s license, social security card, library card, a savings bond for $100, an M&I debit card and $17…

SANC Preschool Pioneers Outdoor Learning Techniques

Wisconsin educators met at the SANC Tuesday to learn about outdoor education from teachers there and expert Claire Warden.

As the sun slipped behind the golden fields at the Tuesday, dozens of early educators foraged the woods for materials to build a village of fairy houses for the Audubon preschoolers to find the next morning. They came from across the state, with a few from Illinois, to see Claire Warden, an educational consultant from Scotland, who started the evening by asking everyone to bulid miniature "dens" from the materials around them. The activity was one example of the type of learning she promotes – one becoming increasingly popular – that opens the classroom to the outdoors and uses nature as toys and teaching materials. "The whole philosophy is about living connected to nature," Warden said. "Nobody's tidied it up, or put it in a bowl, or …
