The University School of Milwaukee claims a nonprofit group plans to open a new charter school in the area with a similar name, and has filed a lawsuit in federal court.
The University School of Milwaukee has filed a lawsuit in federal court against one of its own board members and a nonprofit company that plans to open a charter school in the area with a similar name. The suit claims The Universal Companies and, Ronn Johnson, the companies' executive vice president of education for the Mid-West Region, are infringing on University School's trademarked names, including USM, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Universal plans to open a charter school named Universal School of Milwaukee, using the shorthand name for the University School of Milwaukee, USM. The abbreviation is also on the school's logo. University School is seeking an injunction banning Universal's use of its chosen name and of USM…

The Wildcats beat Nicolet and Brookfield Central their matches on Tuesday but dropped two close matches on Wednesday against Arrowhead and Divine Savior Holy Angels to finish in fourth place in the tournament.

Starting in the early 1800's, University School originally began as The German-English Academy (GEA). In 1917, GEA changed its name to University School. Milwaukee Female Seminary, Milwaukee Country Day and the new University School combined their efforts in 1963. Currently, University School offers programs for prekindergarten through 12th grade.
