After near-record high temps and an above average season, it appears that the party's over. Don't be caught off guard.
Tuesday and Wednesday, it's likely many of you opted for the lighter jacket or sweatshirt when you stepped outdoors, and with temperatures flirting with 50, why not? However, those salad days are coming to an abrupt end as a combination of low pressure systems have finally found our corner of Wisconsin, and will bring 3-6" of snow. The National Weather Service is issuing a winter weather advisory to be in effect from Thursday morning to Friday morning. Snowfall during Thursday is expected to start around 7am with heavier amounts falling later during the day, and continuing overnight. The event will take longer than most 'hit-and-run' storms, which has forecasters estimating 2-4" during the daylight hours of Thursday and another 1-2" …

But most have electricity restored by 6:30 a.m.
Winds whipped through the North Shore Thursday evening into Friday morning, leaving hundreds without lights, Internet, television and phone access. As of 12:30 a.m. Friday, 217 Bayside residents were without power according to the WE Energies outage map, however the reason for the outage is still under investigation. In Fox Point, it was a similar story — 457 people without power. However, by 6:30 a.m Friday, power had been restored to most residents. There were 70 people without electricity in Fox Point and just two in Bayside. At one point, there were about 10,000 customers without power in southeastern Wisconsin. By 6:30 a.m. that number was down to about 3,000. Brian Manthey, a spokesman for WE Enereries, said much of the power outages…

Downed tree leaves Bayside Middle School without power.
Kids at Bayside Middle School got an extra day of vacation today when they were sent home about 10:20 a.m. due to a power outage. "It was a downed tree that affected lines for the school and 35 other residents," District Administrator Rachel Boechler said. WE Energies has been on scene since early this morning Boechler said, working to remove the downed power lines from the fallen tree. As of 1:30 p.m., there are still 35 people without power according to the WE Energies outage map. Boechler said the fallen tree isn't on school property, but a neighboring residents' property. WE Engergies has told Boechler that it hopes power will be restored by 2 p.m. today. But even without power and rainstorms this morning, Boechler says the kids really…

A few helpful numbers to remember when 911 isn't always the best number to call.
We all have known since we were old enough to pick up the telephone that 911 is that magic emergency number. However, what about those times when it's not quite an emergency, but there's definitely a need for help? Capt. Scott McConnell with the Bayside Police Department says that in any situation where you may need help, it's best to call the police and let them decide if something is a true emergency. But just in case, here are a few helpful numbers in case it's not quite a life-or-death situation. Critters, bugs and rodents If you're having issues with any kind of critters - whether they be coyotes, rodents or insects - Advanced Wildlife Control in Mequon is where McConnell may send you. The business can be reached at 262-242-4390. The …

The thunderstorms that swept through the area knocked out power to more than 1,000 homes and businesses in the North Shore early Monday morning but by 9:30 a.m. most electricity had been restored. We Energies spokesman Barry McNulty said the strong winds and lightning caused the power outages beginning after 6 a.m. As of 7:30 a.m., there were 564 We Energies customers without power in Whitefish Bay, 355 in Brown Deer, 76 in Bayside, 66 in Shorewood and 12 in Fox Point. Two hours later, however, less than two dozen outages were reported in Whitefish Bay. And there was just one customer without power in Bayside and one in Brown Deer. While power has been restored to most homes in Shorewood, police have set up four-way stops at intersections …

WE Energies still working on three outages.
Around 10 a.m. Friday, a fallen tree left 430 We Energies customers without power in Fox Point, and during the high temperatures, leaving many without air conditioning or fans. As of 3:06 p.m., only 83 people still remain without power in Fox Point. Brian Manthey, spokesman for WE Energies, said a fallen tree was reported by a We Energies customer in the 7400 block of Seneca Rd. "The wind has been creating some problems for customers," Manthey said. "Customers are telling us there's wires down in the back yard and a tree down on a line." Manthey said that if a tree falls on power lines, or lines are broken, to stay far away because even if you don't touch them, electricity can still be conducted through items like a fence or water. "We …
