Weird Weather Topped Headlines in 2012

National Weather Service recaps 2012, which was indeed hot enough for all of us, and continues to have an impact at the grocery stores.

With just a few days left in 2012, the Milwaukee area stands poised to at least tie if not break the warmest year on record, since records have been kept in the late 1800s. The average temperature as of Dec. 26 was 53.1 degrees, tying the record set in 1931. It would be a worthy award to take away from a year that had its share of weather headlines, and not just for the heat. The National Weather Service, which is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, has come out with its top Wisconsin headlines from 2012, and we've added a few of our own links to local weather stories. The Year in School News in Fox Point and Bayside

Rick Monroe's retirement from the Nicolet was the biggest news, but plenty more happened during 2012.

A rare perfect ACT score was among the school news highlights in 2012 for Fox Point and Bayside, which also saw one administrator retire and another retained over some parental objections. Here is a summary of the top school stories of the year: Nicolet High School District Administrator Rick Monroe announced his retirement in mid-December, effective at the end of the school year. He desires to spend more time on personal pursuits, such as volunteering and visiting his family. Back in January, the Fox Point-Bayside School District gave a two-year contract extension to District Administrator Rachel Boechler. Some parents objected after a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report revealed the Boechler did not immediately reveal an affair between a …

Business Year in Review: 1 New Grocery In, 1 to be Remodeled

Fresh Market opened in April, and now Sendik's plans an expansion and remodeling at the location across the intersection. Look back at commercial changes in 2012 in Fox Point and Bayside.

Fox Point and Bayside have seen a couple of significant changes on the business landscape in 2012, though the biggest is perhaps to come. In mid-December, the “red bag” Sendik’s family announced it was purchasing the Bayside Sendik’s and the entire accompanying building, with eyes on renovation and expansion in 2013. Just across the Brown Deer Road/Port Washington Road intersection, another grocery store already staked out its turf. Fresh Market opened in April, the 21,000-square-foot store filling the vacancy left by Borders bookstore in the River Point Shopping Center. Also in the River Point Shopping Center, Red Mango became the local entry in the frozen yogurt craze with its early September opening. Owners Peter and Elizabeth Braatz …
