President Barack Obama: 'Real Change is Hard,' But Worth the Fight

During campaign stop with singer Katy Perry in Milwaukee Saturday that drew an estimated 20,000 people, Obama says: "I am here today because there is more work to do."

With just days to go before what will likely be a close election both in Wisconsin and nationally, thousands of people filled the Delta Center in Milwaukee Saturday afternoon to hear President Barack Obama promise to keep fighting for the middle class. As soon as he took the podium before a crowd estimated at 20,000, Obama promised to get help to the victims of Hurricane Sandy and asked those in attendance to pray and donate to the Red Cross, if they were able to do so. His speech then turned to his campaign theme of “Forward." His primary message was about continuing the policies of his administration to provide a voice for the middle class while also growing and supporting a strong middle class. Thanx JW, from the beginning I was thinking similarly; Healthcare costs are out of control. Who cares if you can afford insurance, if you cannot afford the balance after the insurance paid their share? The cost of care is what needs to be made affordable!   more ›

Paul Ryan Talks Up Romney During Visit to Racine

Paul Ryan visited Memorial Hall in Racine Wednesday as part of a GOP victory rally tour.

Vice presidential candidate and 1st District congressman Paul Ryan visited Memorial Hall in Racine Wednesday to boost the energy and momentum of local conservatives. Before he took the stage, big-name Republicans said a few words outlining why they think the country needs Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan to win the White House on Nove. 6. And like at past rallies - including the Rally for Jobs hosted by the Racine Tea Party on Saturday - residents were encouraged to vote early absentee so that on election day, they can help ferry voters to the polls. Leaders also took a page traditionally in the Democrats' wheelhouse by telling supporters to make phone calls, knock on doors, and talk to everyone they come in contact with about why the Romney-Ryan…

Obama Leads Romney by 8 Points in New Marquette Poll

Marquette University released the last poll results before the Nov. 6 election on Wednesday.

The race between President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney appears to be shifting once again, according to a new Marquette University poll. Obama leads Romney by eight points in the latest poll results, 51 percent to 43 percent in the state. Two weeks ago, the race was declared a dead heat with Obama garnering 49 percent of respondents' votes to Romney's 48 percent. This poll was conducted after all presidential debates were held, and Professor Charles Franklin, director of the polling project, said the polls reflect how well voters feel their candidate performed. Among most interested likely voters, Obama still retains the lead, albeit a much smaller one with 48 points to Romney's 46 percent. When it comes to the US Senate …

Presidential, Senate Races Both a Dead Heat, New Poll Says

Marquette University Law School's newest poll puts the presidential race between President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney and Wisconsin's U.S. Senate race as too close to call.

The presidential race is a dead heat in Wisconsin, according to a Marquette University Law School poll released Wednesday. President Barack Obama has 49 percent of the support of likely voters polled, while Republican Mitt Romney has 48 percent. "The candidates are separated by fractions of percentages," noted Professor Charles Franklin, who oversees the poll for the university. The first presidential debate had a signficant impact on the respondants, he added. Just two weeks ago, Obama led Romney by 14 points; 54 to 40 percent, but among those who watched the first debate, Romney took the lead by two points, 50 to 48. Obama retains a wide margin by those who did not watch the debate, 50 to 42 percent. "Rarely has a debate produced such a …

Gov. Scott Walker: Paul Ryan Pick a 'Big, Bold Choice'

After the announcement that Republican Mitt Romney chose Congressman Paul Ryan to be his running mate, Gov. Scott Walker and Republican officials throughout the state lauded the choice, although Democrats say Ryan is too extreme.

Calling Paul Ryan a "big, bold choice" for Republican Mitt Romney, Governor Scott Walker told an assortment of media Saturday morning that the Wisconsin congressman will energize the Republican base and bring swing voters along with him. "Paul is a compliment to Mitt Romney because he doesn't just energize the base, he appeals to swing voters who are hungry for leaders who will take on the tough issues," he said. "He excites the base not just here in Wisconsin but across America." Walker also praised Ryan's ability to debate and discuss the issues without making it personal. "We going to see the level of discourse rise in this election because Paul recognizes that his opponent today could very well be his ally tomorrow," the governor added…

This aspect of the ACA has been of tremendous assistance to some of my relatives. Others with pre-existing conditions have also benefited. I perceive ACA as a precursor to what we should have, a proper national healthcare plan that (eventually) phases out the middleman (insurers) that drives up so much of the cost.   more ›

Could Paul Ryan Be Mitt Romney's VP Choice?

The calls are growing louder for the GOP presidential candidate to make a "bold choice" and pick the Wisconsin congressman as his running mate.

If Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is at all concerned about winning Wisconsin come November, adding Rep. Paul Ryan to his ticket as his running mate could help. According to a Public Policy Polling survey last month, Romney's chances of winning the Dairy State go up considerably once Ryan is thrown into the mix. "One thing that could make the state look like much more of a toss-up is if Romney chooses Paul Ryan as his running mate. Ryan has a pretty solid favorability rating  - 44 percent - and if he was on the ticket ... has the effect of further unifying the GOP base around Romney and also helping to bring some more independent voters into the fold," reads a media alert from the organization. Interactive tool shows which …

How Voters Feel About Economy Plays Key Role in Presidential Choice

New polling from Marquette University shows that Wisconsinites still suffering the effects of the recession favor Romney over Obama.

If the presidential election were held today, President Barack Obama would win in Wisconsin over Republican Mitt Romney by about 8 percentage points — 51 to 43 percent. But a closer look into the numbers revealed Wednesday in a new poll from Marquette University Law School shows a distinct divide among voters and whom they support when that question is linked to how they see the economy. It boils down to this: Survey respondents who said the recession really hasn't taken a toll on their personal finances back Obama, while Romney has an edge over those still hurting from the economic turn-down. Obama beats Romney by 51 percent to 44 percent among respondents who say  they were affected by the recession but have now recovered. And among …
