He is the son of Nick and Janet Padway, River Hills, Wis. He is a graduate of University School of Milwaukee. He received a Bachelor of Science in Journalism. Graduate and undergraduate degrees are conferred in December based on work completed during the fall semester. Building Fires in North Shore On Track to Set New Record

Fire Chief Robert Whitaker was unable to pinpoint a particular reason, but 2012 should have more building fires than any year in recent history.

Building fires in the North Shore Fire Department region are up dramatically from last year and are on pace to be the highest total in years. Fire officials haven't been able to pinpoint a common cause. They also say the building fires are not clustered in any one geographic area among their seven communities. "Nationally, some communities are seeing a rise in people starting houses on fire intentionally because they can't afford to keep them anymore and are trying to get rid of the property, but we haven't seen that," Fire Chief Robert Whitaker said.   The causes of the building fires are "all mixed up," Whitaker said. "Lightning strikes, and so on." Meanwhile, medical calls are down, and the department is still on pace to handle roughly …

Proposed NSFD Fee Schedule Rankles Fox Point Trustees

A village trustee says Fox Point is contributing more than it should to the shared fire department, and the board declined to approved the new proposed fee schedule, asking instead for re-examination and a sunset clause.

Editor's Note: This article has been updated to reflect a correction in the numbers for Fox Point's 2012 contributions.  While four of the seven communities served by the North Shore Fire Department have adopted freezing the fee contributions, Fox Point Village Board members are looking for relief and a three-year sunset clause on the new schedule. "Compared to the original formula, it seems Fox Point is giving up more than the other communities are," trustee F.R. Dengel said Tuesday. "It seems like we're being asked to pay for more than our fair share." Fox Point paid 10.38 percent ($1.2 million) of NSFD's costs in 2012; the proposed formula has the village paying 10.31 percent. Thanks for the comment, Adam. At this point, I'm not sure. They didn't discuss that in detail at the meeting. The majority of the conversation was spent deciding if a five or three-year sunset would be appropriate. River Hills Man Tries to Steal Gas From Open Pantry

Police caught up with him at his home and escorted him back to the gas station to pay for the $20 of gas he ran off with.

Bayside Police were called to Open Pantry for a gas drive off but what the the thief didn't know is officers would soon be paying him a visit at his home.  Just before 10 a.m. on May 29, police came to the gas station and spoke with an employee who was able to provide a license plate number for the car that drove off with the five gallons of gas. Police traced that number to the registered owner in River Hills.  Police went to the man’s house and a matching vehicle was in the driveway with a man waslking into the garage. They asked him if he had just purchased gas at the Open Pantry. He said yes, but could not provide a receipt for the credit card purchase he claimed he made.  The man and police went back to the gas station where he paid …

Kohler, of Bayside, passed away at 95.

Ruth Rose Kohler, of Bayside, passed away on April 23 at the age of 95 . She is preceded in death by her husband Julius N. Kohler. Beloved mother of Marilyn K. (David) Franklin and Sandra Kohler (Scott) Stern. Loving "Mimi" of grandchildren Scott (Amber) Franklin, Andrew (Alla) Franklin, Jodie Stern and Jason Stern; and of great-grandchildren Melanie and Laci Franklin and Alexander and Julianna Franklin.
