One Year Ago
One year ago, the people of Wisconsin made a bold statement. After a baseless recall, the hard-working taxpayers stood with Governor Walker - and won. The historic victory confirmed that voters want leaders who keep their word when in office.
Now, one year after the recall victory, we continue to see the achievements and the reforms made by Governor Walker that have put Wisconsin back on track. Under his leadership, a $3.6 billion budget deficit was turned into a surplus without raising taxes, and our economy is growing again.
Employer confidence has increased dramatically. More than 62,000 jobs have been created, and Wisconsin now ranks 17th in Chief Executive Magazine’s Best States for Businesses. In another survey, 93% of employers say Wisconsin is headed in the right direction under Governor Walker. Before he took office, a mere 10% of employers felt this way.
In addition to creating an environment with pro-growth policies, Governor Walker has put the power back into the hands of the people. In fact, he has authored two budgets that freeze property taxes. His budget this year also includes an income tax cut across the board to continue to spur job growth in the Badger State.
We can’t afford to go back to the days of double-digit tax increases and record job loss. Thanks to the voters who spoke loud and clear on June 5, 2012, Governor Walker and Republican leaders were able to return fiscal sanity to our state. Let’s continue to celebrate their courage and efforts as they work to move Wisconsin forward.
